A Legendary Dark Fantasy Manga Officially Returns Tomorrow

[

After a long period of uncertainty, Berserk fans finally have something to hold on to. The long-running manga is officially returning on June 12, 2026, with Chapter 384, ending a nine-month hiatus following the release of Chapter 383. The upcoming chapter will be published in Japan’s Young Animal magazine and marks the first of three consecutive chapters scheduled for release this summer, signaling renewed momentum for one of the industry’s most beloved dark fantasy series.

The update builds on comments from Kouji Mori, who has overseen the manga since the death of its original creator, Kentaro Miura, in 2021. Mori previously confirmed that the team at Studio Gaga was preparing to continue Berserk with full effort in 2026, and the newly announced publication schedule suggests that commitment is already taking shape. For a series that has become synonymous with extended hiatuses and irregular release patterns, three consecutive chapters represent a rare period of consistency.

Mori has also confirmed that he will not personally draw the series’ central figure, Guts, given the immense difficulty of recreating Miura’s distinctive artistic style. Instead, he has praised Miura’s apprentices for carrying forward the visual identity that has made Berserk so iconic. The manga was first published in 1989 and has spanned 43 volumes, with the latest volume released in Japan in August 2025. While a release date for Volume 44 has not yet been announced, the return of Chapter 384 and the two chapters scheduled to follow this summer provide the clearest indication yet that the series is moving forward at a steadier pace.

‘Berserk’s New Release Schedule Isn’t 100% Confirmed

Although Berserk is returning with Chapter 384 tomorrow, the manga’s schedule beyond that point has not been fully confirmed. Chapter 383 was the most recent installment, arriving in Japan last September. While Chapter 384 has a firm release date, the following chapters remain undated for now, even with reports indicating that three consecutive installments are planned for this summer.

  • Berserk chapter 384 release date: June 12, 2026
  • Berserk chapter 385 release date: TBA
  • Berserk chapter 386 release date: TBA
  • Berserk chapter 387 release date: TBA

That uncertainty is nothing new for Berserk, which has long followed an irregular publication schedule. Japanese readers can sometimes wait months between new chapters, while international fans often wait even longer for official English releases. Dark Horse Comics handles the English-language publication of Berserk, with Volume 43 currently scheduled for release on October 27, 2026. Beyond that, the timeline for Volume 44 remains unclear. Since collected volumes typically require several chapters, and only a limited amount of post-Volume 43 material has been published so far, it may still be a long wait before the next English volume is ready.

Beyond the manga, Berserk has received multiple anime adaptations, including the widely acclaimed 1997 TV series, the Golden Age Arc film trilogy released between 2012 and 2013, which was later re-edited into a television format in 2022, and another adaptation that ran from 2016 to 2017, which received mixed reception. Since then, no new anime adaptations have been announced, making the manga’s upcoming return all the more meaningful for longtime fans of the franchise.

Your Universe Has Been Chosen
You Belong In…

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

  • You are drawn to the moral clarity of a universe where hope itself is a form of resistance.
  • You’d find your people in the Rebellion — a ragtag coalition of true believers held together by conviction more than resources.
  • Star Wars is fundamentally a story about ordinary people choosing to matter in an extraordinary conflict — and that is exactly your kind of story.
  • The Force may or may not be with you. But the will to use it for something larger than yourself certainly is.

Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

  • Middle-earth is a world of ancient wonder, deep friendship, and a darkness that only retreats when enough small acts of courage accumulate.
  • You would thrive here because you value the fellowship more than the glory — the road more than the arrival.
  • Tolkien’s universe rewards patience, loyalty, and the willingness to carry something heavy across a very long distance.
  • Those are not burdens to you. They are simply how you move through the world.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

  • The Wizarding World is a place of wonder hidden in plain sight, where learning is transformative and the bonds you form at school follow you into every battle.
  • You would flourish here because you take both the magic and the friendships seriously — and you understand that one without the other is incomplete.
  • Harry Potter’s universe ultimately rewards those who choose to stand for something even when standing is terrifying.
  • That choice — made quietly, without guarantee — is something you understand completely.

Westeros · The Known World

Game of Thrones

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

  • Westeros is a world that rewards intelligence, adaptability, and the willingness to understand that every alliance is also a negotiation.
  • You would survive here — possibly thrive here — because you don’t confuse the world as it is with the world as you’d like it to be.
  • Game of Thrones is a story about what happens when the idealists and the realists collide. You are sharp enough to know which one lasts longer.
  • Winter always comes. You are already prepared.

The United Federation of Planets

Star Trek

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

  • Star Trek is a universe where the questions matter as much as the answers, and where encountering something utterly alien is cause for wonder rather than fear.
  • You would belong here because you are fundamentally optimistic about what intelligence and decency can achieve — while being honest about how hard that achievement is.
  • The Federation is the universe’s most ambitious thought experiment: what if we actually got better?
  • You don’t just hope that’s possible. You think it’s the only thing worth working toward.

Koji Mori Has Been Candid About the Challenges of Continuing ‘Berserk’

Since taking over Berserk following Kentaro Miura’s death in 2021, Mori has never shied away from discussing the difficulties of continuing one of manga’s most beloved series. In a message included with Volume 42, the first installment released without Miura’s involvement, Mori acknowledged that Berserk would inevitably change and warned readers that it might always feel “imperfect” without its original creator. Rather than presenting that reality as a temporary obstacle, Mori described it as an unavoidable consequence of loss. He also expressed empathy for fans struggling with the transition, noting that he was grappling with many of the same emotions himself.

Mori explained that the decision to continue the manga ultimately came down to honoring both Miura and the story he left unfinished. As one of Miura’s closest friends and longtime creative confidants, Mori argued that abandoning Berserk would have been a greater disservice than attempting to complete it, even if the result could never fully replicate Miura’s vision. He has repeatedly emphasized that many of the series’ remaining story beats had been discussed in detail over the years, giving Studio Gaga and the current creative team a clearer understanding of the path Miura intended the story to follow.

Berserk officially returns tomorrow. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates about the series.
