Sony’s Spider-Man Reboot Officially Kicks Off This Week

[

Sony is about to effectively reboot Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and the push to make it happen is kicking off this week. Spider-Man has been in vogue lately thanks to Nicolas Cage’s performance in Spider-Noir, but there’s a much bigger release on the horizon. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring the MCU’s Peter Parker back in full force for the first time since 2021, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer.

So far, Sony and Marvel have been keeping details about Brand New Day under wraps. Aside from one trailer for Brand New Day, the majority of the movie’s plot remains a mystery, as do some of the potential appearances from heroes and villains. There’s been quite a bit of speculation, from fans believing Sadie Sink could play Jean Grey to a potential appearance from the symbiote Venom, but very few confirmed details so far.

Two things about Spider-Man: Brand New Day are clear, however: the upcoming movie is functioning as a soft reboot for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, and Marvel and Sony are officially ready to kick things off. The MCU is bringing Peter Parker into a new era, and in the real world, we’re about to learn a lot more about Brand New Day than we currently do. It’s a great time to be a fan of Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is Essentially A Reboot For Tom Holland’s Peter Parker

While Tom Holland isn’t being replaced as Peter Parker, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about as close to a reboot as a movie can get without casting a new lead actor. Everything we know about Brand New Day indicates that this is a new start. There are plenty of real-world indications that Brand New Day is a “reboot” for the MCU. Most notably, it’s breaking the title conventions of Holland’s first three films, Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home. More importantly, there are in-universe reasons why Brand New Day is a reboot.

No one remembers Peter after the ending of No Way Home, including MJ and Ned, he finally got his origin story thanks to Aunt May’s death in the same movie, and he’s got a fresh start. Peter also has a fresh new suit that’s closer to his comic book look, complete with pronounced webbing details and bright blue highlights. Most importantly, Peter is being written as a down-on-his-luck everyman instead of Tony Stark’s golden protégé, a major change from previous films.

Basically, the only things that have remained consistent about Brand New Day compared to earlier Tom Holland Spider-Man movies are Tom Holland himself and the franchise’s continuity. This movie is going to look, feel, and be different from any of the MCU’s live-action Spider-Man movies so far. Short of Sony ending its licensing deal with Disney, Brand New Day is the closest to a Spider-Man reboot we’ll get for the foreseeable future.

Brand New Day’s Marketing Campaign Is Starting In Full Force

Now, just over a month before Spider-Man: Brand New Day reinvents Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, the movie’s marketing campaign is finally getting underway. Brand New Day‘s second trailer is expected to drop tomorrow, June 17 (via IGN). Alongside the trailer, Marvel released an image of Jacob Batalon’s Ned and confirmed that he made an in-universe fan website for Spider-Man that real-world viewers can also access (via SpideyTracker).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Official Synopsis Finally Reveals Villain Details

Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios debut a new official Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie synopsis, which finally shares more details on the villain.

The press tour for Brand New Day also began on June 15 with an event in Spain. In the coming weeks leading up to the film’s July 31 release date, we’ll be getting tons of interviews from the cast of Brand New Day, new trailers, clips, information about the movie and its story, and potentially even reveals about some closely-held secrets, such as Sadie Sink’s role in the movie. By all accounts, Spidey season is beginning now.

It’s also worth noting that Brand New Day‘s marketing campaign bears quite a few similarities to the campaign for No Way Home. The second trailer for No Way Home also debuted a bit over a month before the movie released. Marvel also created a social media campaign with in-universe videos from the Daily Bugle, not unlike Ned’s new website. If that’s any indication, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is gearing up for a major press and marketing push that will make everyone aware that Peter Parker is back for a fresh start.
