As with last year’s big sale, Amazon has started its Prime Day Kindle deals early this year. The event isn’t technically starting until next Tuesday, but as always, the retailer features a few warm-up deals on its own brand devices, including the popular Kindle ereader series.
Even better still, several models are sitting at record-low prices right now. There is just one caveat — the deals right now are on the kids’ versions, rather than the standard models.
That means you’ll get an extended warranty, a free limited-time subscription to Amazon Kids+, and a funky themed cover. Functionally, however, the devices are exactly the same as the ‘adult’ versions. These are still really good deals on the latest devices; I’d be tempted myself if I didn’t already own a Kindle.
The deals start with the standard Kindle Kids for just $99 (was $129) — a good option for thrifty readers who just need the basics. Other options include the Kindle Paperwhite for $139 (was $179) and the new Kindle Colorsoft Kids for $179 (was $269). I could see the latter being a particularly good choice for kids’ stories and graphic novels.
Note that Amazon’s early Prime Day deals also include some great subscription bonuses that won’t cost you a cent. Just below, you can see extended free trials for Audible and Kindle Unlimited, which is a great pairing with one of these cheap Kindles.
