There’s absolutely no doubt that The Simpsons is one of the biggest and most recognizable television franchises in history, with millions of people tuning in over the years to see what the titular family has been up to. The show has just passed it’s 800th episode, and it’s currently airing its 37th season, so that really tells you all you need to know about its seemingly permanent popularity.
That continued appeal has seen it pop up in all sorts of places over the years, not least the world of video games, where Road Rage and Hit & Run still stand out as genuine classics. Happily, that won’t be the last we see of the family in this digital format, though, and a new deal could see them crop up more than ever before.
As first reported by Variety, Disney and Epic Games have announced a new partnership that will see the beloved show join Fortnite’s IP Partner Program. This will give third-party developers all of the tools they need to create “fully authentic” games using the characters, settings, and other elements from the show.
The two media giants confirmed the new partnership at Epic’s Unreal Fest Chicago 2026 developers conference, with the tools set to launch later this year. As of the time of writing, they did refuse to be drawn on what revenue sharing for creators will look like, with details around that confirmed at a later date.
“I can’t wait to see what the Fortnite superfans and The Simpsons superfans come up with!” said Matt Selman, executive producer and showrunner behind The Simpsons.
This is just the latest collaboration between the two companies, after Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games back at the start of 2024. The Simpsons has appeared in Fortnite in several forms over the years, including with a dedicated month-long battle royale season that a ton of players logged in to play.
It will certainly be interesting to see what players come up with with these new tools to hand, particularly in the wild and wacky universe that The Simpsons occupies.
The Simpsons does seem to be going through a bit of a renaissance right now, with the show cropping up all over, in places you wouldn’t necessarily expect. At the same time, there has been a huge fan movement to resurrect games like Hit & Run via fan remasters, so it’s actually a great period to be a long-term fan.
