Fallout 4 Gets New DLC Dedicated To Game’s Best Character

[

As one of the best open-world RPG franchises in history, the Fallout series really lives or dies by the stories it tells players while they explore the world, wherever that may be. A big part of delivering that narrative is the litany of characters we meet during our journey, and over the years, there have been some very memorable members of the cast.

Fallout: New Vegas might still be the gold standard for memorable characters from the games we have enjoyed so far, with figures like Mr House, Benny, and Joseph Graham from the Honest Hearts DLC all standing out. That said, the most recent entry has some heavy hitters of its own, and one in particular is at the center of a new mod.

Nick Valentine in the Fallout 4 Switch 2 port

Over on the official website for Bethesda’s Creation Club, you should be able to find the page for Valentines — A Detective’s Life, a highly ambitious fan release that puts the titular detective agency at the center of the player’s story.

Nick Valentine is easily one of the most likable characters in all of Fallout 4, with his persona helped immeasurably by the brilliant voice work of Stephen Russell, who is also known for his other appearances as Corvo Attano in Dishonored 2, and a ton of other voices in Skyrim, Thief and more.

Though we obviously interact with the character and his detective agency as part of the main story, this download gives you a reason to keep returning. The player can pick up cases from Nick’s desk, heading out into the Commonwealth to do some good and maybe earn some caps along the way.

The mafia-like Triggermen are at the center of the story, and its nice to see them used beyond the very limited quest interactions we have with them in the base game.

Available for PC and Xbox, the mod does cost 500 Creation Club Credits, but for that you get repeatable radiant quests, as well as standalone side quests, and the main, five-part Triggerman storyline.

The news that new Xbox head Asha Sharma is keen to really focus on Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, and Halo as major franchises sounds tentatively like good news for players that have been waiting on the sidelines for years. Whether that means that new games in the series could be farmed out to other developers remains to be seen, but a 20+ year gap between games doesn’t sound particularly tenable moving forward.
