Chainsaw Man’s New Opening Movie Has Fans Losing Their Minds

[

As a part of MAPPA’s 15th anniversary, the studio shared a stream featuring several new animations and sneak peeks at upcoming projects, ranging from new animations for Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, and none other than Chainsaw Man. While the new trailer for Chainsaw Man‘s upcoming season already offers plenty for fans to look forward to in the wildest arc of the series, fans are even more excited over a brand-new project announcement for the series.

Finally giving fans what they’ve been asking for over the years since the series’ inception, the project also came with a brand-new opening movie animated by MAPPA themselves that is a glorious celebration of Chainsaw Man’s most beloved characters.

After showing off the teaser for the animated Assassin’s Arc, the official MAPPA YouTube channel shared an animated trailer for the first official Chainsaw Man video game, and although it didn’t show off any actual gameplay just yet, the gorgeous and surprisingly upbeat animation of the Devil Hunter association in combat already has fans sold on the concept.

On top of featuring music from frequent Chainsaw Man contributor Maximum the Hormone, which fans praised “fits Chainsaw Man like a glove,” the animation even offers a handful of Easter eggs from the series, like the Kickback animation change from Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, alongside numerous characters from each arc of the story so far.

While it’s great to see all our favorite characters healthy and back in action again, fans have pointed out that the “trailer makes the characters’ lives way happier than what it actually is,” with expressions that “look like they’re splashing water on each other on the beach,” offering some much-needed levity for the series, even if the clear water has been replaced with blood in this instance.

Although we still know painfully little about what kind of gameplay the upcoming Chainsaw Man Mobile Game will offer, aside from featuring contracts where you take down new and familiar devils alike, the platform and star system included in the trailer all but confirm that it will be a gacha-game-style experience, letting you roll to unlock and play as plenty of iconic characters from across the anime so far.

Potraying Aki, Denji, and Power as 5-star characters to unlock, fans have even joked that “Kobeni’s Car is going to be a SSS Rank Pull” when the game eventually releases, and that “If they went this hard for a mobile game intro, then Season 2 intro will be diabolical.”

While there are plenty of reasons to be excited about what Chainsaw Man has in store, and what medium the series will choose moving forward for future arcs, the Chainsaw Man game seems like it will be more than just a simple side project or cash grab if MAPPA’s fully original opening movie is anything to go by.
