Prime Video Adapting Ulf Kvensler’s Debut Novel ‘Sarek’ As Series

EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video is adapting Ulf Kvensler’s debut novel into four-part psychological thriller miniseries Sarek.

Based on the book of the same name, the show will star Felix Sandman (Quicksand), Kitt Walker Johansson (Burden of Justice), Alva Bratt (Barracuda Queens) and Nora Rios (Caliphate).

Set in the landscape of Sweden’s Sarek National Park, the series follows a group of friends on a hiking tripe that takes a dangerous turn.

Here’s the synopsis: “Two survivors. Two conflicting stories. Only one can be true. When a badly wounded woman is airlifted to safety, she tells police a terrifying story: their group of friends fell under the psychopathic control of a charismatic outsider, leading to manipulation and psychological torture, and death. But just as the case appears closed, an unpredictable twist shatters everything — one of the supposed victims is still alive, and her account of what happened in the wilderness is utterly different.”

Måns Herngren (The Restaurant) is the series’ conceptualising director and head script writer, co-writers are Amanda Högberg (Diary of a Ditched Girl, Deliver Me) and Axel Stjärne (End of Summer). Henrik Björn (Jordskott) directs one episode. Maida Krak serves as producer and Elin Kvist as executive producer.

Pre-production is underway, with principal photography set to begin in July, with a launch on Prime Video Nordics in 2027. Banijay Entertainment‘s Jarowskij/Yellow Bird is producing alongside Amazon MGM Studios and Filmpool Nord is a co-producer. No word on the international distributor right now.

Emilia Widstrand is now in charge of Prime Video Nordics originals, having replaced Karin Lindström. She also took on the content acquisitions duties that Andreas Hjertø held before his exit in January.

Prime Video’s local originals in the Nordics have included the likes of Snake Killer, Vaka and LOL: Last One Laughing. In 2024, the Amazon streamer also purchased the nine Viaplay originals that became available when that streamer cut back in a cost-saving exercise.
