Blue Bloods‘ Reagans may have founs their successors in NBC’s Line of Fire.
With the 2025-2026 TV cycle now in the past, networks are setting up the next chapter in their programming by confirming what fall 2026 will look like for them. For NBC, that means a mix of legacy shows like the One Chicago franchise, as well as Law & Order, and Law & Order: SVU, mixed with up-and-coming classics, such as St. Denis Medical and even Happy’s Place. That said, arguably some of its most exciting offerings are their freshman series.
NBC is beefing up its comedy roster with real-life couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly’s Newlyweds, as well as its reality show portfolio withThe Traitors: New Blood, which is the first US-based civillian installment of the reality show. While both of those are intriguing in their own right, perhaps the most-talked about new show on the Peacock network is Line of Duty. Marking Peter Krause’s TV comeback since Bobby Nash’s controversial death in 9-1-1, it marries family drama with police procedural aspects, which was the core storytelling principle of Blue Bloods.
Ahead of its premiere in September, NBC has released the first trailer for Line of Fire, which shows a proper look at the Hollingsworths. The clip effectively introduces each member of the clan, as it also buils up the premise of the series. Instead of solving weekly cases, the show is focused on a bigger conspiracy theory — at least in Line of Fire season 1. Watch the video below:
Per the official NBC logline for Line of Fire, the Josh Safran-spearheaded series follows “a family of law enforcement agents [that] bridges personal differences and crosses professional boundaries as they tackle cases for the FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, and Department of Justice. After a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy, they must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.” Krause is playing the family patriarch, Mike Hollingsworth, as seen in the trailer. Hope Davis, Kat Cunning, Tommy O’Brien, Taylor Bloom, and Charlie Barnett are joining him to round up the show’s cast.
Admittedly, CBS’s Boston Blue is the sequel series to Blue Bloods, which was cancelled despite pushback from its fans and even the people involved in the series themselves. That said, Line of Fire is offering fans an entirely new series that could be more similar to the Tom Selleck-led project. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that it will be the exact same copy of Blue Bloods, considering the difference in terms of law enforcement roles between the Reagans and the Hollingsworth. However, Line of Fire could offer the overall same vibe.
NBC Officially Issues Death Sentence To 36-Year-Old Series With Over 540 Episodes
The latest official announcement from NBC effectively gives a 36-year-old legacy series with over 540 episodes under its belt a death sentence.
It will be interesting to see how Line of Fire fits into NBC’s procedural-heavy portfolio. The network has pulled the plug on some of its most creative series in the last couple of years, including Found and even Brilliant Minds. With a solid ensemble and tested premise, Safran’s new show might live beyond NBC’s fall 2026 portfolio.
