Dragon Ball as we know it is about to come to an end forever. To be fair, Dragon Ball has survived for decades precisely because it’s always willing to keep moving forward and embrace new chapters, and this time is no different. Goku is one of the most beloved fictional characters ever, and the world created by the late Akira Toriyama will live on for decades to come.
In many ways, then, Dragon Ball has always been about endings. And so it is that July 8 will see the release of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2‘s final DLC, dubbed Future Saga Chapter 4. It seems like only yesterday, but Xenoverse 2 actually released way back in 2016. Developer Dimps alongside publisher Bandai Namco have continued to support the game for a decade, but with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 on the way, it’s time to wrap things up with one last battle. Incredibly, this last DLC will be the 21st Xenoverse 2 has received in 10 years. An incredible effort.
Future Saga Chapter 4 will bring the long-running saga to an end with some final balance tweaks, new story missions, character directions, and a new Awoken Skill. We can even expect a brand-new form for Goku, although this won’t be unveiled properly until July 7. While it’s still a few days away, fans have been quick to share their tributes to Xenoverse 2 and the fun they’ve had with the game over the years.
“Looks like we’re reaching the end of an era once again,” one fan wrote under the trailer on YouTube. “Glad to have played the game since High School.”
Another added: “I honestly can’t believe it’s actually ending, it’s been one hell of a journey.”
Of course, Xenoverse 2 might be wrapping up, but you’ll be able to begin a brand-new story in Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 in 2027. Expect a similar approach to gameplay, but an entirely new world and characters.
“Step into a brand-new future DRAGON BALL universe filled with unique, original characters brought to life by Akira Toriyama, the original author of DRAGON BALL,” teases the new game’s official synopsis. “In AGE 1000, journey through developed and vibrant West City. Explore the bustling city, encounter characters, and uncover exciting new stories.”
For now, however, fans should get ready to say goodbye to Xenoverse 2. I don’t know much, but I know Dragon Ball is going to keep on going for a very, very long time yet.
