Streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu sure love making changes nobody asked for, don’t they? Just when we get used to one way of working, they take it away in one fell swoop. We don’t like change; we’re creatures of habit, what can we say? However, this change might be one that people actually don’t have problems with.
Prime Video has quietly retired one of its old subscription options, and the switch is now fully in place. The streamer replaced its Ad Free plan with a new Ultra tier earlier this year, which means subscribers who were paying to watch without interruptions are now being moved onto a different package. But that doesn’t mean it’s a bad change. Amazon announced the change in March, with the new system kicking in on April 10. As a result, Prime Video Ad Free memberships have been phased out, with existing users automatically renewing into the Ultra plan each month. The service even sent another reminder email on July 2, more than three months after the rollout started. Prime Video is not going anywhere, obviously, but its old ad-free option is very much on the way out.

More adaptations are on the way too, including The Love Hypothesis, starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman, plus a planned version of Ali Hazelwood’s Love, Theoretically. Amazon is also still working on its long-awaited God of Warseries. For subscribers, though, the main thing is simple: Prime Video Ad Free may be gone (pour one out), and Ultra is now the streamer’s premium no-ads option.
