Stick season 2 gets a promising update from Timothy Olyphant.
Created by Jason Keller, the hit Apple TV comedy series stars Owen Wilson as Pryce Cahill, an ex-pro golfer who takes on a troubled new protégé with the hopes of achieving greatness. Following a positive response to season 1, Stick season 2 was confirmed in July 2025, with no release date announced.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Olyphant, who stars in the series as antagonist Clark Ross, reveals that he has wrapped filming on Stick season 2. He calls the new episodes “funny and heartbreaking,” and compares the series to his other Apple TV show, Lucky, which premieres on the streamer on July 15. Check out Olyphant’s comment below:
I’ve had a really good couple years. When I was starting, I remember Paul Newman talking about trying to get to a place where you just don’t see the work. At the risk of babbling on like an actor — let’s try to avoid that — I will say I’m very proud of the work I’ve had the opportunity to do of late. This show, Lucky, gave me great material that was full of contradiction and complexity and humor, and also heartbreak. It was just a joy to be able to live those scenes out. I just finished Season two of Stick. Totally different tone, but funny and heartbreaking, and a level of vulnerability and truth that came with so much heart.
Olyphant’s latest update is in keeping with comments Keller made to Deadline in May. The show’s creator said that production had concluded and that he’s “deep into post-production now. We’re hoping that the show will release sooner rather than later.”
With post-production having been underway for a few months, a release in late 2026 for season 2 isn’t off the table. The Stick season 1 finale was released on July 23 last year, meaning viewers could potentially see Pryce and Clark back on their screens within 18 months, a relative rarity in today’s entertainment landscape, where two-year waits between seasons of TV isn’t unusual.
If Stick season 2 does release before 2027, 2026 will be a big year for golf-related TV comedies on streaming. Netflix is currently gearing up for the release of The Hawk starring Will Ferrell, which features a somewhat similar premise of a former golf pro struggling to make a comeback. All ten episodes of The Hawk hit Netflix on July 16.
Stick season 2 will likely see the return of most cast members from season 1, including Lilli Kay, Mariana Treviño, Marc Maron, Peter Dager, and Judy Greer. As for the sophomore outing’s story, nothing has been revealed, but season 1 ends with Pryce confronted with the question of whether to start playing golf professionally once more, a plot thread that is sure to be addressed when the show returns.
For Olyphant, Stick season 2 will arrive as the former Justified star remains a regular presence on the big and small screens. Olyphant will also be starring in Alien: Earth season 2, and he’s also set to appear in The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the David Fincher sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood (2019).
Stick season 1 has an 81% from critics and a 72% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a broadly positive reception. If season 2 can match the strong critical response and also deliver in terms of viewership, there’s reason to be optimistic that the sophomore outing won’t be the Olyphant show’s last.
