Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad Quietly Replaces Kit Harington As Jon Snow

Despite there having been several attempts to reconcile the divisive ending of HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones, many fans have come to accept that it may not be possible. For example, House of the Dragon has attempted to recontextualize Game of Thrones‘ finale by expanding Aegon the Conqueror’s prophecy and emphasizing the Targaryens’ role in preparing for the Long Night.

Further, the upcoming real-time strategy game War for Westeros has promised to put the fate of the Seven Kingdoms in gamers’ hands, and even offered up a compelling cinematic trailer that saw Jon Snow face off against the Night King with the duel we were promised, but inexplicably never actually saw unfold. That said, while fans would probably be okay with a retcon of the GoT story, it’s more or less universally agreed that the casting choices for the series’ iconic characters are off limits.

However, whether you realized it or not, Jon Snow has already been recast right under our noses, replacing Kit Harington with a completely different actor for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad (via Instagram).

While it isn’t necessarily a new development, Jon Snow was officially recast for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, with the role going to Tobias Weatherburn. While Kit Harington is obviously a fan-favorite for the role, Weatherburn is a storied actor, featured in many popular titles such as Borderlands 4, the Dragon Quest I & II Remake, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, and even The Quiet Things video game.

If you still haven’t had a chance to check out Kingsroad, it’s a free-to-play action RPG from Netmarble that lets players explore Westeros through an original story set alongside the events of HBO’s Game of Thrones. Available on PC via Steam as well as iOS and Android, the game features three playable classes, real-time combat, character progression, and encounters with iconic characters and locations from the series.

While many players have praised it as being a faithful adaptation of the HBO series, overall reception has been mixed due to aggressive microtransactions, grind-heavy progression, and the fact it’s largely a mobile game with monetization features that many critics feel have held back an otherwise promising RPG. That said, it’s well worth checking out if you’re a Game of Thrones fan and looking for something to kill time with before War for Westeros comes out later this year.
