3 Best Movies To Watch On Prime Video This Weekend (July 11-12)

Prime Video subscribers looking for a nice mix of genres with major stars on the streaming service this weekend have come to the right place, as this selection offers a little bit of everything. On last weekend’s Prime Video movie recommendations, I went over the many positives of watching Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde, The Cure, and Jason Statham’s A Working Man.

At the time of writing, two of those movies are trending on the streamer’s charts. Statham’s R-rated action thriller is the only one American viewers are watching in droves, with A Working Man standing as the 10th most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States. That said, according to FlixPatrol, Legally Blonde is currently the 10th most popular film on the streamer worldwide.

For this weekend’s list, I decided not to include any Prime Video original movies, as there are many excellent licensed films available on the streaming service right now. One of those simply happens to be the best sci-fi movie released in 2026 so far. Sure, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three is yet to come, but it will have to work hard to top this box office juggernaut that was met with overwhelming praise.

The other two movies on this weekend’s Prime Video recommendations are a romantic thriller from none other than A24, and a gritty adventure that is both underrated and timely. These movies either prepare viewers for new theatrical releases, or serve as projects for subscribers to finally discover on Prime Video.

The Lost City Of Z (2016)

One of the biggest movies of the year will be released next week. That is Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which arrives on July 17. To get in the mood for the upcoming epic, I believe Prime Video subscribers would do well with this underrated film that features two of The Odyssey‘s biggest stars. The Lost City of Z stars both Batman actor Robert Pattinson and Spider-Man star Tom Holland.

The Lost City of Z focuses on Charlie Hunnam’s Percy Fawcett, a British explorer who goes on many expeditions in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest. Holland plays Fawcett’s son, Jack, who embarks on a fateful expedition with his father, while Pattinson gives life to Corporal Henry Costin, an early companion of Percy’s. The Lost City of Z is a character-driven, immersive adventure story.

Love Lies Bleeding (2024)

Next up is Love Lies Bleeding. The A24 thriller is centered on the whirlwind romance between Kristen Stewart’s (Twilight) Lou, a gym manager, and Katy O’Brian’s (Twisters) Jackie, a bodybuilder with a penchant for violence who is passing through Lou’s town on her way to a competition. They become involved with a criminal organization run by Lou’s estranged father, Ed Harris’ Lou Sr.

Love Lies Bleeding is a fast-paced thriller with a story that keeps escalating until a shocking conclusion. The movie boasts a talented cast that also includes names like Dave Franco (Regretting You), Jena Malone (The Boroughs), Anna Baryshnikov (Dickinson), and more. The R-rated thriller was met with praise by critics and moviegoers alike. Love Lies Bleeding has a near-perfect 94% critics’ score and a solid 81% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Project Hail Mary (2026)

Finally, the perfect movie on Prime Video for subscribers to end the weekend is Project Hail Mary. It is simply the best sci-fi movie that has been released in 2026 so far. The film carries one of Ryan Gosling’s most charismatic performances as the school-teacher-turned-astronaut Ryland Grace. The Sun is dying, and he is the only one who can save humanity.

Project Hail Mary features some of the genre’s best visuals, impressive CGI and practical effects, energetic characters — including the lovable alien Rocky — and a story about resilience, connection, optimism, and more. Viewers will be on the edge of their seat and will feel every emotion possible on this hit that leads Prime Video‘s global charts.
