It’s Official, Game Of Thrones Is Returning As A New Era Dawns

Game of Thrones fans have a lot to look forward to at the moment, with Season 3 of House of the Dragon currently airing, the highly anticipated new real-time strategy game, War for Westeros, slated to drop later this year, a new season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms coming in 2027, and several other projects on the way beyond these.

There’s no doubt that, while HOTD has been a somewhat divisive project for various deviations from George R.R. Martin’s source material in Fire & Blood, viewership and interest in the franchise are higher than they’ve been since the original HBO series first aired. And if you thought the future lineup for the franchise was already packed with promising releases, there’s even more to be excited about, as a new announcement marks the dawn of a new era for Game of Thrones (via Steam).

The world of A Song of Ice and Fire is officially taking a step into a new era with major future plans for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, the story-driven action-adventure RPG from Netmarble released back in summer 2025. According to a new announcement from developers, the first official Season for Kingsroad, Frost and Steel officially kicks off on Wednesday, July 15.

The North Bannerman Qualifiers: Frost and Steel launches this week and introduces the game’s first large-scale seasonal progression system. Rather than focusing on open warfare, the season centers around a competitive tournament hosted by the great Northern houses in response to Ironborn raids, with players becoming champions fighting for the honor of their chosen faction.

According to the recent Dev Note, the biggest additions include the following:

• Choose your House: Pledge allegiance to House Umber, House Hornwood, or House Manderly, each representing a different philosophy and identity rather than gameplay advantages.
• House-based seasonal rankings: Players compete only against members of their own House, with weekly standings, cumulative seasonal rankings, and exclusive rewards for the top performers.
• New seasonal progression: Earn points through both high-level dungeon performance and everyday activities by collecting Season Tokens from expeditions, regional events, world bosses, and repeatable content, allowing both hardcore and casual players to contribute.
• Three new seasonal dungeons: New versions of Wormwalks, Beyond the Wall Expedition, and Elite Hideout provide fresh endgame challenges and leaderboard opportunities.
• The North Bannerman Duel Festival (July 22): A new PvE tournament mode where players face highly advanced AI-controlled champions that mimic human PvP tactics, including dodging, parrying, and ranged combat.
• Seasonal rewards: New Battle Pass content, House co-op missions, limited cosmetics, titles, mount banners, emojis, and permanent Hall of Fame recognition for the highest-ranked champions.

Kingsroad has seen a swell of interest in recent months as the game finally released to Asian audiences on PC, iOS, and Android back in May 2026. This marked the official release in countries including South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other Southeast Asian markets.

The Frost and Steel season officially launches this Wednesday, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, and the game is currently available to play for free on iOS, Android, and PC via Steam.
