PlayStation Plus may be reeling from the number of dissatisfied users upset about PlayStation’s plan to kill discs by January 2028, but that hasn’t stopped PlayStation from going about its business as usual and hoping that fans’ outrage will die down. In fact, PlayStation extended an olive branch to fans by cutting PS Plus prices, possibly as an attempt to thwart users from canceling their PS Plus subscriptions.
Nonetheless, it’s now the middle of July after a long front half of the month has gone by, and PlayStation has now announced which games are being added to the PS Plus Game Catalog. Whether you’re a fan of the massively successful Avatar franchise (the one with Na’vi, not the one with benders) who hasn’t yet found the opportunity to play the tie-in, or a fan of Far Cry games who hasn’t yet tried this riff on the formula, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is coming soon.
As per PlayStation.Blog, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has been revealed as one of the games joining the PS Plus Games Catalog in July, specifically for the millions of PS Plus users who are subscribed to the service’s Extra and Premium tiers. Among other fantastic titles like Rise of the Ronin, Firefighting Simulator: Ignite, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind, and Dying Light, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is one of fans’ best excuses to subscribe to PS Plus Extra or Premium in a long while, if they haven’t already.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be available globally on July 21.
For the uninitiated, Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora explores more of the cinematic franchise’s lore by introducing fans to a new Na’vi protagonist in a prequel story set eight years before the events of Avatar (2009). Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s world and gameplay alone are proof of how wonderfully the series can be adapted as a video game, especially if players are fans of the Far Cry franchise and Ubisoft’s typical gameplay formulas.
Even if you’re not a huge Far Cry or Ubisoft fan, though, being a huge fan of Avatar will likely be enough for you to adore Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Plus, while it was originally only playable from a first-person perspective and may have turned away gamers who greatly prefer a third-person perspective, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora received a third-person update last December.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora was released on December 7, 2023, and it’s a major godsend to have it become available for PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers less than three years later. This way, fans who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus have a chance to try out a game that might’ve flown under their radar, and perhaps have it become a fully canonical game that they cherish as much as the movies that it’s inspired by.
