Adventure Time Is Officially Returning With Brand-New RPG

[

Since debuting on Cartoon Network in 2010, Adventure Time has become one of the most beloved and influential animated franchises of our time. What’s now an absolutely enormous fanbase has always been drawn to the series’ surprising and absurdist humor, the colorful Land of Ooo, not to mention beloved protagonists Finn & Jake.

However, despite it being a comedy, the series has also earned praise for tackling surprisingly mature themes, such as the struggles of growing up, dealing with grief, etc. As a result of its continuous success, the show has expanded into a full-on franchise, with Distant Lands and the more adult-oriented Fionna and Cake, which returned for its second season in 2025.

Most recently, Adventure Time: Side Quests brought audiences back to Finn’s younger years with new standalone adventures, while an upcoming feature film and the preschool-focused Heyo BMO promise to keep this wonderfully strange universe growing for years to come. However, perhaps the most exciting new development for Adventure Time fans is the official new RPG, which is finally expected to arrive this year (via Kickstarter).

Cryptozoic Entertainment’s Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game has been one of the most successful licensed tabletop RPG crowdfunding campaigns in recent years, raising more than $1.63 million from over 7,600 backers after launching on Kickstarter in April 2024.

Built around a streamlined 5E ruleset, the game lets players create their own heroes and explore the Land of Ooo alongside iconic locations, creatures, and characters from the beloved animated series. For full details on the RPGs mechanics and specific gameplay features, I’d highly recommend giving the official Kickstarter page a thorough read.

Aside from the core RPG book, the Kickstarter campaign also included an introductory guide narrated by Jake the Dog, a full campaign book, custom dice, miniatures, maps, and a wide range of stretch-goal rewards. However, development ultimately took much longer than originally anticipated due to the sheer volume of writing, artwork, editing, and licensor approvals required, which creators have been pretty good about providing updates about over the years.

Fortunately, the project has recently reached its biggest milestone yet, where earlier this year, Cryptozoic confirmed that the complete line had finally been sent to the printer, and a June production update revealed that the publisher is now reviewing factory proofs and approving final samples as manufacturing continues.

As of now, backers have not yet begun receiving physical copies, with fulfillment still in the production phase rather than shipping, but it’s likely only a matter of weeks at this point, not months. Cryptozoic has not announced a firm delivery date, but current updates indicate the team is actively moving through final print approvals before mass production begins, suggesting rewards are still on track to arrive later in 2026 if manufacturing proceeds as planned.

Likewise, no standalone retail release has been announced beyond the existing BackerKit preorder campaign, although publishers commonly wait until Kickstarter fulfillment is complete before confirming wider retail availability. That means if you missed your chance to order the incredible Adventure Time RPG via Kickstarter, you’ll likely get another shot at some point in the near future.
