Fallout: Viva New Vegas Officially Announced

The Fallout franchise really is as popular as it has ever been right now, with the new series bringing in a raft of fresh faces into the fandom, as well as reigniting the passions of longtime players. That makes it all the more frustrating that nothing has been done with the IP on the game front for so long, with that unlikely to change any time soon.

Though Obsidian Entertainment being handed the reins once again for a new release is undoubtedly an exciting thing, that’s probably years away from fruition, leaving us with no new options in the meantime. That means we have to look to the existing pantheon of titles for our post-apocalyptic good times, and fortunately, there is plenty going on right now.

Over on Twitter/X, the official profile page for Fallout shared a post confirming that the Viva New Vegas season is temporarily returning to Fallout Shelter. The full post reads:

“The Viva New Vegas season is back for a limited time in Fallout Shelter! Bring Novac under control, meet characters like Lucy, Max, and The Ghoul, and earn unique rewards along the way. Play the season now on mobile and Steam!”

This continues a notable trend from the developer to further integrate the Prime Video adaptation into the existing canon of the games. Todd Howard has already stated that the next game in the series will absolutely take place in a world where the events of the show have happened, so making the world more cohesive ahead of time does make sense.

Though they haven’t specified everything that’s set to go on as part of the event, this is a returning season, and it should be fairly similar to what players got last time out. Reclaiming and bringing Novac under control is the bigger task that players will have to contend with, but you can also expect visits from the show’s main cast along the way.

All the returning rewards seem to be the same at this juncture as well, with the season now live on all servers, regardless of whether you play on mobile or PC.

The third season of the show is currently filming, with a release for that expected next year. The only potential green shoots of hope on the game front are the rumored remake of Fallout 3, though that’s still yet to materialize in any meaningful way for the millions of fans waiting in the wings.
