Supernatural Meets Resident Evil In This Stunning New Horror

There are few horror projects quite as compelling as Supernatural and Resident Evil. Sure, both have had their ups and downs, but, for the most part, save a handful of less-than-stellar entries, they’ve delivered fairly consistent scares, adventures, and iconic characters that have inspired future generations of video games, TV series, and films. So, it is only natural that fans of both would want a new project to come along and continue their excellence.

Fortunately, one such upcoming horror project seeks to do so by combining the monster hunter adventures of Supernatural with the terrifying nightmare fuel of Resident Evil. While it remains to be seen just how well this merging of two distinctly excellent horror series goes, the new project could very well be the perfect experience to tide fans over until the next Supernatural series releases, or the long-awaited next RE entry is launched.

Supernatural Meets Resident Evil Could Make For The Perfect Horror Game

The upcoming Hunter: The Reckoning — Deathwish brings together the aforementioned best aspects of both Supernatural and Resident Evil to make what looks set to be the best horror game of the year, if not at least one of its best. Of course, the World of Darkness series of video games (which encompasses the likes of Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse) has typically failed to deliver on its promise of bringing fantastical creatures of folklore and fairytale to the gritty neon-lit streets of New York. However, if any game could break that cycle of disappointment, I’d wager it’s Deathwish.

Developed by Teyon, the same folks behind the incredible RoboCop: Rogue City, Hunter: The Reckoning — Deathwish sees players attempting to work out who among the locals of New York are ghouls, vampires, and all manner of creepy monsters disguising themselves as humans. You’ll investigate each person, search for clues, fight against fearsome foes, and ultimately hunt down the evil tainting the streets of New York. Of course, you won’t be alone; like Sam had Dean in Supernatural, the player will be able to team up with other monster hunters to cleanse the world of evil.

The idea of living in perpetual paranoia, having the freedom to investigate how you want, and risk having a target put on your head by nefarious underground forces should you stir the pot too much sounds incredibly exciting. Of course, fans of Resident Evil will enjoy the tense scares Deathwish promises, as well as the blend of realistic environments and nightmare fuel monsters, and Supernatural fans will get a kick out of the investigation side of it all. It is truly a perfect combination, one I’m surprised hasn’t been done more often.

Hunter: The Reckoning — Deathwish Could Finally Save World of Darkness

The World of Darkness series is perhaps best known for its tabletop iteration, which, much like Shadowrun, helped reinvigorate the fantasy genre by giving it a macabre and interesting twist. Beyond the original Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines game, there hasn’t really been a successful video game adaptation that’s translated its exceptionally in-depth RPG mechanics and penchant for violent action. The series has really needed a boost since the launch of the abysmal Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2, and Deathwish could very well be it.

There is, naturally, every chance that Teyon and publisher Nacon (which recently shut down numerous studios amidst financial difficulty) fail to pull off the Supernatural/Resident Evil combination we’ve all been hoping Hunter: The Reckoning — Deathwish ends up being. However, one can hope that, much like Teyon did for RoboCop, the studio manages to deliver on its promises and finally turn things around. It remains to be seen just how like Supernatural and Resident Evil Hunter: The Reckoning — Deathwish ends up being, but, at the very least, it’s sure to be an interesting release.
