Final Fantasy 9: Not Alone Officially Arrives October 2026

Final Fantasy 9 has made a name for itself. At one point, it was the “return of the classic Final Fantasy” entry. Now, it’s forged an identity of its own through its strong, striking cast and beautiful game world. When you see it pop up in “all-star” Final Fantasy games and representing the FF9 era, the character designs stand out.

That goes double for whenever Alexandria is reimagined in a modern game, which just makes the idea of a Final Fantasy 9 remake that much more appealing. While we aren’t getting that just yet, Square Enix does have a new release coming, and you can pick it up later this year in October.

Thanks to an official posting from the Square Enix Store, we know that the Not Alone music box will drop later this October. It’ll feature the song “Not Alone” from the game itself, alongside silhouettes of Garnet, Vivi, Adelbert, Freya, Eiko, Quina, and Amarant.

For reference, Not Alone is one of the main themes of Final Fantasy 9, and is Zidane’s theme of sorts. It plays near the end of the game and showcases the party’s commitment to one another. It even appears in other games, like Final Fantasy 14 as a jukebox track, and across multiple titles in the Dissidia series. If you’ve played the game before, once you’ve heard the song, you’ll remember it.

The track does a great job of showing off how strong this particular party is, especially since they’re made up of some of the most diverse characters to ever grace the series. Freya, in particular, is one of the series’ best Dragoon representations, and you’d be hard-pressed to come up with a better rep for the Black Mage than Vivi.

Final Fantasy 9 will always hold a special place in people’s hearts, which is why you often see so much love for it at trade shows and through official Square Enix releases. This is just another reminder that a remake would have a ripple effect throughout the RPG industry.
