[

Trading activity in India’s equity markets remained strong in June, with cash market turnover on the NSE rising to a 23-month high of ₹27.7 lakh crore from ₹26.9 lakh crore in May, according to the report.

While proprietary traders account for the largest share of cash market turnover, their contribution slipped to a six-month low of 33%, suggesting a broader participation base across investor categories.

In the derivatives segment, foreign investors strengthened their presence in equity futures. Their share rose to a record high of 31.5% in June, allowing them to retain the top position for a third consecutive month. Domestic institutional investors also increased their share to 13.8%.

A similar trend was visible in the options market. In equity options, measured by premium turnover, proprietary traders’ share eased to 48%, while individual investors increased their participation to 39.3%, highlighting the growing participation of retail traders in the derivatives.
