Diablo’s Age of Hatred Saga Finally Ends Next Week With One Final Release

[

If you’re a Diablo gamer, you were probably under the impression that the Age of Hatred Saga concluded in April 2026 with Blizzard’s Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred. However, there is still one final addition to the saga before it reaches its true conclusion, and it’s arriving in just one week.

While Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred may have served as the official finale of the Age of Hatred Saga, the story still has one final entry pending release: Diablo: Dawn of Hatred #4. Those who only follow the franchise through its games may be unaware that Blizzard, in partnership with Titan Comics, produced a four-part comic miniseries that serves as the official bridge between Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred and Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred.

Written by Cullen Bunn, with art from Daniele Serra, Jovanna Plata, and Giusi Lo Piccolo, Diablo: Dawn of Hatred fills in the events between the two expansions while further expanding the characters and lore surrounding the Age of Hatred Saga. The miniseries has placed particular focus on exploring the aftermath of Mephisto’s growing influence, including the mysterious apparent resurrection of Akarat.

Now, this exploration is set to reach its conclusion on July 29, 2026, with the release of Diablo: Dawn of Hatred #4, which will also serve as the final currently planned addition to the Age of Hatred Saga. The 32-page issue will be available for $4.99 at local comic shops and digitally upon release. With the finale only one week away, now is the perfect time to catch up on the previous three issues.

While reading Diablo: Dawn of Hatred is not essential for understanding the storyline or gameplay of Lord of Hatred, the series does exist within the official game canon, taking place several months after Vessel of Hatred. However, it will be a must-read for those who enjoy diving deeper into the world and lore of Diablo, as the comic expands on character backstories, established lore, and the wider world-building of Sanctuary.

For those interested in the comic series, the official synopsis for issue #1 can be found below:

Akarat, the ancient legend whose teachings spawned the Zakarum faith, has risen from death. He claims he has returned to spread peace, love, and the Light. His powers healed the leader of the Fox Tribe, and now the barbarians are amongst his most loyal followers. All but Derris. Though his people have sworn themselves to Akarat and the Light, Derris knows that the cycle of violence consumes Sanctuary sooner or later—an opinion shared by the mysterious Vrexia, another skeptic swept up in Akarat’s caravan. But when assassins come to slaughter Akarat, Derris must either save the holy man…or watch his tribe be cut down.

As previously mentioned, issues #1-3 of Diablo: Dawn of Hatred are now available to read, with the installments receiving a mostly positive reception from fans. Many readers have praised the series for serving as an interesting expansion of Diablo lore and for adding more depth to the events surrounding the Age of Hatred Saga. With Dawn of Hatred #4 releasing next week, fans can expect a conclusion that ties together the major threads introduced throughout the miniseries.

According to the official synopsis for issue #4, the finale will focus on Derris and Vrexia as they close in on Akarat, exploring the idea that the brighter the light, the darker the shadows left in its wake. The issue will also answer the lingering question of whether Derris’ teachings have simply been misunderstood, or whether his suspicions about Akarat were part of a larger plan all along.

So, if you’re a die-hard fan of Diablo lore, Diablo: Dawn of Hatred is an obvious must-read as the Age of Hatred Saga reaches its final chapter.

Diablo: Dawn of Hatred #4 from Titan Comics will be available to read on July 29, 2026!
