Rick Moranis breaks his silence on ending his retirement for Spaceballs: The New One.
Nearly 40 years after the original Mel Brooks movie was released, a sequel is on the way, and scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 23, 2027. Many original cast members are returning, including Moranis as Dark Helmet, the villain who is a parody of the iconic Star Wars character Darth Vader. The actor has long been retired from the industry, though, with his last live-action movie being 1997’s Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves!
Now, during Spaceballs: The New One‘s San Diego Comic-Con panel, where ScreenRant‘s Brandon Zachary was in attendance, Moranis explained why he returned for this movie: “It just felt like, this is it. It’s time. I said yes and it’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”
