Fans got a sneak peek at Hudson Williams’ starring role in “Yaga” on Saturday afternoon.
A clip from Crave’s upcoming mystery thriller was shown during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, featuring series cast members Noah Reid (“Schitt’s Creek”), Clark Backo (“Venom: The Last Dance”), Letterkenny), Carrie-Anne Moss (“Memento”) and showrunner and executive producer Kat Sandler.
Recording wasn’t allowed for the exclusive SDCC clip but AMC+ posted a trailer to Instagram shortly after the panel. The video begins with a voice-over of Moss’s character Katherine eerily describing the many facets of Baby Yaga, the witchy figure from Slavic folklore off which the show, and the original play, was based.
“Sometimes she kills him, sometimes she eats him, sometimes she fucks him,” she says of Baby Yaga and her victims. The video then cuts to a fast-paced montage of spooky and horny clips, including one of Williams, with his hand in his pants, sensually touching himself.
While Williams wasn’t in attendance, he recorded a video message for the packed room. “I wish I could be there with you today, and that beautiful cast and crew that I love so much,” he said. “I’ve also never been to Comic-Con so I’d really love to be there!”
“The show was a blast,” he continued. “It was a wild one to film and I just hope you guys love it as much as I had fun filming it.”
“Yaga, based on Sandler’s hit play, reimagines the myth of Baba Yaga and centers on Radd (Reid), a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park (Williams). He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson (Clark Backo), a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine (Carrie-Anne Moss) and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects.
“I am the smartest showrunner in the world,” Sandler said about snagging Williams for the show after his breakout success in “Heated Rivalry.” “We’re very lucky that he wanted to come play.”
“You’ll get to see another side of Hudson’s acting capabilities,” Reid added. “It’s a wild performance. He’s got blue eyes, which everyone’s been commenting on. It’s like ‘Oh that’s kind of scary hot.’”
