Chris Pratt’s New $1 Billion Fantasy Is Now #1 On Streaming After Just 1 Day

Chris Pratt box office mega-hit is now also a win on streaming.

Though previously best known for Parks and Recreation, Pratt has since branched beyond this hit sitcom to become a major movie and TV star across multiple genres. His turn as Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies was a major reason for his boost in fame, and he kept his blockbuster streak going with three Jurassic World movies. Pratt has also shown interest in more serious action fare, leading Prime Video’s Terminal List TV show and the recent sci-fi flop Mercy (2026). In addition to live-action projects, Pratt has also excelled in animation.

One of these animated hits, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, is now dominating on streaming. As of writing, it ranks as the number one movie on Peacock in the U.S. following its launch on the platform on July 30. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie beats Obsession (2026), Reminders of Him (2026), Pressure (2026), and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 (2013).

Directed by Aaron Horvath, Michael Jelenic, and Pierre Leduc, the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) features Pratt once again voicing Mario, this time in an adventure that features the iconic Nintendo character venturing into outer space.

Hailing from Illumination, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features the return of a number of voice actors from the first film, including Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Charlie Day as Luigi. Newcomers for this installment are Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina, Donald Glover as Yoshi, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., Glen Powell as Fox McCloud, Luis Guzmán as Wart, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, and Virginia Dare Jelenic as Yellow Luma.

The animated film’s popularity on streaming follows massive success in theaters. Made on a budget of $110 million, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie grossed $1.011 billion worldwide, failing to match The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s $1.360 billion several years earlier.

Critically, the Illumination sequel was met with mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a lackluster 42% from critics. The audience response was far more favorable, however, with the Popcornmeter score coming in at 87%.

ScreenRant‘s own The Super Mario Galaxy Movie review by Jordan William awarded the film a score of five out of 10. Jordan praises the animation and comedy while taking issue with the lack of any real substance, writing:

Anyone expecting a Pixar-like narrative with moving themes, carefully developed characters, and a memorable story won’t find it in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. That isn’t the formula Nintendo is using with these movies, yet it works for what it wants to be: an entertaining, nostalgia-filled, comical, visually stunning romp through multiple generations of Mario.

Given the outstanding box office performance and audience enthusiasm, it seems inevitable that Illumination will make a third Super Mario movie. As the voice of Mario, Pratt is essentially guaranteed to be involved, and this would be in addition to his confirmed return for a sequel to The Garfield Movie (2024), solidifying his dominance as a voice actor in animation.

It remains to be seen whether The Super Mario Galaxy Movie‘s streaming success will continue into the days and weeks ahead, but it certainly seems likely given the audience response to the movie so far. With an announcement regarding a third installment potentially not far off, Pratt’s time as Mario may not be at an end just yet.
