Prime Video’s new shark thriller is sinking its teeth into the global streaming charts.
Ever since Jaws (1975), the summer season has seen several shark movies that have attempted to replicate, but never been able to recapture its success, such as Deep Blue Sea (1999), Soul Surfer (2011), Sharknado (2013), The Shallows (2016), 47 Meters Down (2017), The Meg (2018), Under Paris (2024), and Dangerous Animals (2025). This year alone has seen the release of Thrash, Deep Water, and another shark thriller that is making a big splash on the global streaming charts.
Two days after its release, The Devil’s Mouth is taking a massive bite out of the global streaming charts. Directed by Jeff Wadlow, Prime Video’s new thriller follows a group of college friends who explore an underwater cave network in Thailand and become trapped in a desperate fight for survival with a relentless and bloodthirsty bull shark.
Now, following its release on July 29, The Devil’s Mouth is No. 1 on Prime Video’s Top 10 movies in the United States for today, July 31. It ranks above Masters of the Universe, Project Hail Mary, The Amateur, Moonfall, Ruthless, World War Z, Do Not Enter, The Sheep Detectives, and Uncharted.
The Devil’s Mouth is also No. 2 on Prime Video’s Top 10 overall movies and TV shows in the US today. It ranks below Ride or Die at No. 1 and above Masters of the Universe, Project Hail Mary, Feng Shui Master & The Pregnant Ghost, Off Campus, The Amateur, Moonfall, Ruthless, and World War Z.
The cast includes Kathryn Newton (Freaky), Lana Condor (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before), Gavin Casalegno (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Nico Hiraga (Moxie), Tommi Rose (Power Book III: Raising Kanan), and Tayme Thapthimthong (The White Lotus season 3).
Despite it taking over Prime Video’s charts, the shark movie is receiving terrible reviews, with The Devil’s Mouth Rotten Tomatoes scores coming in at 32% and 16% from critics and audiences, respectively, who call it a predictable and forgettable thriller with weak scares, bad CGI, and annoying characters. Many viewers say they were rooting for the shark instead.
While The Devil’s Mouth is currently feasting at the top of Prime Video’s charts, don’t mistake its popularity for quality, as it seems the shark movie has already found plenty of streaming victims. Don’t be next.
