For a long time, Dungeons & Dragonshas brought players to a variety of fantasy worlds, from the familiar Forgotten Realms to the world of Exandria by Critical Role‘s Matthew Mercer. Over half a century of adventuring, Dungeons & Dragons became a platform to tell stories with either a group of friends or a wide audience. Now, the iconic tabletop game will be crossing over with two large IPs, allowing players to tell their stories in more established worlds.
Dungeons & Dragons is a role-playing tabletop game created by Gary Gygax, first released in 1974, where players embark on adventures, with the Dungeon Master setting up and detailing what goes on at the table. Recently, the game has been featured in various aspects of pop culture. It was shown in a few episodes of The Big Bang Theory,influenced the Netflix hit Stranger Things, and an episode of Ted, with Dimension 20‘s Brennan Lee Mulligan playing as Dungeon Master. Additionally, there have been shows based on the franchise, from existing D&D titles like the 80s cartoon of the same name, Dungeon & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, to the upcoming Baldurs Gate 3 adaptation. At the moment, Dungeons & Dragons is currently in its “Revised 5th Edition” (or Version 5.5), which features new and improved content from the existing 5th Edition game.
Recently, Dungeons & Dragons held its D&D Vision Keynote at Gen Con, showcasing their roadmap of what’s to come for this board game. Alongside new studio partnerships, bringing back familiar settings, and other D&D-related updates, Dungeons & Dragons has announced that it will be followingMagic: The Gathering‘s playbook and launching D&D Universes Beyond, allowing the game to collaborate with other existing franchises, starting with World of Warcraft, which is scheduled to come out in November 2026. This collab will bring D&D players to Azeroth. It will include 13 World of Warcraft Classes, 7 dungeons based on Blizzard Entertainment’s MMORPG, 50+ new monsters, 60+ new spells, and other new features, bringing World of Warcraft to the tabletop setting. The D&D: World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion is now available for pre-order, with a listed price of $79.99, and it’s scheduled to come out this November. In addition, Dungeons & Dragons has also announced a crossover with Star Wars, titled D&D | Star Wars™: The Season of Rebellion. Details about this crossover have yet to be revealed, but it’s scheduled to come out sometime in 2027.

Hasbro’s Universes Beyond, Explained
Universes Beyond is a sub-brand that started in Magic: The Gathering in 2021 following the success of the MTG x The Walking Dead Secret Lair crossover in 2020. This allowed Magic: The Gathering to produce unique mechanic cards based on existing IP and allowing them to be legally playable in-game. Following The Walking Dead, other titles have made their way into Magic: The Gathering, starting with Stranger Things, then later Arcane, Warhammer 40,000, Doctor Who, The Lord of the Rings, Fallout,Final Fantasy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and most recently, Marvel. Just like Magic: The Gathering,Dungeons & Dragons has already collaborated with existing IPs before establishing its own Universes Beyond, which includes collabs with Stranger Things, Magic: The Gathering, Minecraft, andRick and Morty.
