The fifth edition features three flat stages, three hilly stages, two mountain stages and one ITT, and incorporates 1,175km and 18,795m of elevation gain – both records. The route will traverse three mountain passes: the Jura, Massif Central and Alps.
The Queen Stage is Stage 7, which takes the Tour de France Femmes up Mont Ventoux for the very first time. The mountain, nicknamed the “Beast of Provence”, rises at an average gradient of 8.8% over 15.7km, the final 1.7km stretching up to 9.4%. This and the Stage 4 ITT will ultimately determine the race’s outcome.
While Vollering and Niewiadoma have each made the podium at every edition of the TdF Femmes, van der Breggen has twice seen Grand Tour glory slip away on the final day of racing.
