Game of Thrones is chock-full of fascinating mythology that has largely been overshadowed in recent projects such as House of the Dragon by the focus on dragon origins and Targaryen history. There’s a trove of unexplored lore from the A Song of Ice and Fire novels and the original Game of Thrones television series that are ripe for expansion in later adaptations, but it’s unclear if we’ll ever get the answers we really want when it comes to certain mysteries in the franchise.
Perhaps one of the most interesting unexplored areas in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy world is the R’hllor, or Lord of Light. Although the Lord of Light remains shrouded in mystery, the mythos has shaped some of the franchise’s most iconic and pivotal moments. Through followers like Melisandre and Thoros of Myr, audiences witnessed seemingly impossible miracles, including Beric Dondarrion’s repeated resurrections and Jon Snow’s return from the dead.
The faith’s prophecies surrounding Azor Ahai and its apparent connection to the battle against the White Walkers hint at something truly supernatural and significant operating behind the scenes, yet George R.R. Martin has intentionally left many of these details ambiguous. That said, fans will be able to dive deeper with the upcoming launch of Game of Thrones: Lord of Light on August 7 (via GoT Conquest).
The Lord of Light returns in one of the exciting upcoming featured PvP events running from August 7 through August 9 in Game of Thrones: Conquest‘s new History and Visions monthly arc. The limited-time event challenges players to battle rival kingdoms during a three-day competitive window, offering another opportunity to earn valuable rewards tied to the new August campaign.
While Warner Bros. Games hasn’t revealed any unique mechanics exclusive to Lord of Light just yet, the event’s theme draws inspiration from the mysterious religion of R’hllor, whose followers played a pivotal role in the battle against the White Walkers. The event joins other PvP challenges like Test Your Mettle, The Climb, and War for the Throne as part of the month’s packed schedule.
Developed and published by Warner Bros. Games, Game of Thrones: Conquest is a free-to-play 4X mobile strategy game set in HBO’s Game of Thrones universe. Players build and upgrade their keeps, train armies, raise dragons, forge alliances, and wage war against other kingdoms in large-scale multiplayer battles for control of Westeros.
The game regularly rotates themed monthly story arcs inspired by major moments, locations, characters, etc. from the franchise, pairing PvP and PvE events with “Flashback” crafting events and power-up challenges. By participating throughout each event cycle, players can collect exclusive gear, dragon equipment, crafting materials, and other progression rewards before the monthly campaign concludes and a new storyline begins.
While WB Games Boston’s new House of the Dragon-based mobile experience, Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, has been met with rave reviews among players so far, Game of Thrones: Conquest also comes highly recommended for fans of the franchise and has been getting active updates for almost a decade now.
