Star Trek Cancellation Marks The End Of An Era

There’s plenty to look forward to as a Star Trek fan at the moment, starting with the new feature film led by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley featuring an entirely new cast. Strange New Worlds is also preparing to conclude its run with a shortened fifth season, while Starfleet Academy still has a completed second season on the way.

Beyond television and film, the franchise is expanding through projects such as the psychological horror game Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, the recently released Voyager: Across the Unknown, and multiple other projects celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, such as a unique MTG x Star Trek crossover for the beloved Universes Beyond line.

However, 2026 has brought several upsets for Star Trek fans as well. The aforementioned Starfleet Academy‘s second season will end up being its last, while Strange New Worlds was confirmed to be ending with Season 5 as well, while the narrative-driven Star Trek: Resurgence was officially delisted from Steam earlier this summer. But perhaps the biggest blow for fans of late is that a fan-favorite Star Trek RPG is apparently being delisted this month before being shut down for good in September (via Polygon).

The Star Trek: Legends RPG is officially shutting down for good, with Tilting Point announcing plans to remove the team-based RPG from all remaining digital storefronts on August 20, 2026. Players who already downloaded the game can continue accessing it until September 3, when its servers will be permanently shut down.

Afterward, Legends will become completely unplayable, including its substantial single-player content, though its console editions had already quietly disappeared from PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch storefronts earlier in 2026.

Paramount Television

Originally released through Apple Arcade in 2021, Star Trek: Legends later expanded to PC and consoles. The turn-based RPG placed players aboard the USS Artemis and allowed them to assemble teams featuring more than 90 heroes and villains from throughout the franchise, including Kirk, Spock, Picard, Janeway, Data, and Burnham. Its modes included a story campaign, tactical battles, character collection, survival challenges, and competitive PvP.

Despite gaining a modest following among Star Trek fans, Legends was never a major critical or commercial hit. Metacritic lists a respectable 7.4 user score, but that figure is based on only nine ratings. Tilting Point thanked the game’s community but offered no specific explanation for the shutdown, leaving licensing costs, limited engagement, and server expenses as unconfirmed possibilities.

While there are plenty of new Star Trek projects to look forward to, this cancellation marks the end of an era for a unique adventure in the franchise.
