Hela Is Coming for Sigurd Jarlson

In the latest issue of Queen in Black, Hela reflects on the state of Asgard following Thor’s death. While speaking with Tyr, she acknowledges that the God of Thunder is gone, but reveals that one person has caught her attention. According to Hela, there is “one mortal on Earth with an odd connection to our fallen foe.” She goes on to say that the two are “much alike” before announcing that she intends to investigate Sigurd Jarlson herself. It’s a brief exchange, but it carries enormous implications for Marvel’s current Thor storyline. When Immortal Thor #25 concluded, Thor was reborn as Sigurd Jarlson, reviving an alter ego originally introduced during Walt Simonson‘s legendary run in the 1980s. Sigurd became Thor’s new reality after the God of Thunder was written out of history, leaving the former Avenger to navigate the Marvel Universe as an ordinary man while everyone else forgot Thor had ever existed.
Since then, Marvel has carefully built Sigurd into the center of Thor’s next chapter without fully explaining his role, but now Hela has immediately identified Sigurd as someone uniquely tied to Thor and decided he’s important enough to investigate personally. Marvel also makes it clear that this moment is only the beginning. An editor’s note directs readers to the upcoming Queen in Black: Thor special, where Hela’s pursuit of Sigurd will continue. For months, Sigurd Jarlson has existed in the shadow of a hero the Marvel Universe no longer remembers. After Queen in Black #2, those days appear to be over. If Hela believes the mortal shares an “odd connection” with the fallen God of Thunder, Sigurd may have just found himself in the center of something galactic.
