A Mysterious Visitor Arrives When Eddie Brock Needs It Most

After spending much of the issue imprisoned and isolated, Eddie tries to reassure himself that his situation is only temporary. Convinced he’ll eventually find a way out, he speaks aloud to keep his spirits up. That’s when an unfamiliar voice unexpectedly answers him. The source of that voice is a black-and-gold cat with glowing red eyes, presumably a cat hosting a symbiote if the tendrils are any indication, that calmly approaches Eddie inside his cell. Instead of threatening him, however, the creature immediately begins offering comfort. It tells Eddie that no one deserves to be alone before assuring him that he’s “very special,” ending the issue on an eerie but surprisingly compassionate note.
Marvel doesn’t explain who or what the mysterious visitor actually is, or why they’re presumably staging a jailbreak for Eddie, instead saving those answers for a future installment. It’s no surprise that the symbiotes aren’t ready to let Eddie go, and this is only the beginning of a story we’ve seen play out similarly in the past. Throughout Marvel history, Eddie’s biggest changes have often begun with a new relationship or unexpected connection before growing into something much larger. Whether this strange visitor ultimately becomes an ally, an enemy, or something far more complicated remains a mystery, but Queen in Black: Venom Unchained #2 makes it clear that Eddie’s imprisonment isn’t the end of his story. Instead, it’s the foundation for whatever comes next. By withholding the visitor’s identity while placing it directly in Eddie’s path, Marvel has officially shifted the focus toward his future, ensuring one of the series’ biggest questions will carry into the next issue.
