‘Obsession,’ Inde Navarrette and Curry Barker Are Heading Back to TIFF

The Toronto International Film Festival just can’t quit “Obsession.”

On Thursday, TIFF, which runs Sept. 10-20, 2026, announced its Midnight Madness lineup of genre films, including filmmaker Anna Biller’s highly anticipated follow-up to 2016’s “The Love Witch,” titled “The Face of Horror,” about a 14th century cheating widower (Jonah Hauer-King) who’s haunted by his late wife (Kristine Froseth); “Vintage Violence,” a zany action-comedy starring Cole Sprouse as a jeans producer in Japan who gets mixed up with the yakuza; opening night film “River,” a slasher from first-time director Joshua Giuliano starring Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe as siblings stalked by a faceless killer; and closing night film “Rogue Trooper,” the latest sci-fi movie from “Moon” director Duncan Jones, and based on the comic of the same name, about a genetic super soldier (Aneurin Barnard) seeking revenge against those that killed everyone else in his outfit.

In addition to its Midnight Madness program, TIFF also revealed that it will host a special screening of Curry Barker’s smash hit “Obsession” on Friday, Sept. 11, and previously announced an onstage Dialogues conversation with its director Curry Barker and star Inde Navarrette as part of its inaugural TIFF: The Market. “Obsession” has become a bona fide cultural phenomenon and one of the most profitable movies of all time, grossing nearly $500 million worldwide against a $750,000 budget. And the film had its world premiere at last year’s TIFF, so it makes sense that the fest is taking a victory lap.

Midnight Madness will also include a special screening of Na Hong-jin’s “Hope,” starring Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon (“Squid Game”), Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander. The South Korean action film earned glowing reviews out of Cannes and centers on a group of rural villagers who clash with a family of aliens that crash-lands in their backyard.

Curated by Peter Kuplowsky, the Midnight Madness films all screen at 11:59 p.m. at the supposedly haunted Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
