“Beautiful” New Xbox Hardware Design Leaked Ahead Of Official Reveal

[

There’s no doubt that Xbox is going through a pretty significant reset right now, after a disappointing few years when compared with their most immediate competitors. The arrival of Asha Sharma in the big job has certainly seen some genuinely impressive moves made thus far, but there’s a long way to go if they want to secure their future in the long term.

Xbox’s future approach to hardware releases has already been somewhat laid out, with confirmation that Project Helix is the next step in that journey. While we wait to hear exactly what that’s going to be like, there are additional hardware release coming all the time, including via a new rumor that could be the most exciting of the bunch.

New Xbox Hardware Is Coming Soon

Xbox Wireless Controller

As first reported by Dealabs (via PureXbox), Xbox is set to announce the arrival of a new limited edition controller, tied to the release of Gears of War: E-Day. That comes after they took a similar approach with Forza Horizon 6, where a controller release tied to that game was received very well by fans.

The controller will supposedly be known as the “Storm King,” and it will cost around the same as we have seen for similar initiatives in the past, at £84.99 / $89.99. The full announcement is expected in the next couple of weeks, with Dealabs claiming they have already seen the design, which they described in their original report:

“It’s been a really long time since we’ve seen such a beautiful controller at Xbox. The hull adopts a play of black and red cracked textures, like cracked volcanic rock. The left stick remains black and sober, while the entire center block (Db, Xbox buttons, Display, Menu, Share) is blood-red, surrounded by the Crimson Omen, the emblematic logo of Gears of War which combines a cog and a skull in blood-red as well. The right stick and the X button take up the same red, while the A, B and Y buttons remain black, creating a sharp contrast between the two halves of the controller.”

A Gears Of War-Themed Controller Sounds Awesome

Honestly, the description alone makes it sound like one of the coolest controllers we have seen in years, and previous, official Gears of War-themed hardware releases have been all time greats. We’ll have to wait for Xbox to break cover and announce the hardware, but it’s difficult to think of a better way to play Gears of War: E-Day when it does drop in October.
