Metal Gear Solid Meets Jurassic Park In Terrifying New Dinosaur Survival Horror

[

While the survival horror genre has been on the rise for years at this point, thanks to massively successful franchises like Resident Evil, few games have managed to capture the unique mix of mandatory stealth and survival mechanics that makes the dinosaur horror genre so appealing. While some promising triple-A releases like Jurassic Park Survival are aiming to scratch the same itch, it’s far from the only upcoming dinosaur-themed survival horror game on the horizon.

From remakes or original games that lean more heavily into the sci-fi concept versus those that take a more grounded approach, the trailer and gameplay details for this specific survival-horror game make it seem like one of the most promising upcoming releases in the genre by far.

The Dinosaur Stealth Hybrid We Never Knew We Needed

The Lost Wild Dinosaur Survival Horror Game Reveal Trailer

Despite taking place on an island incredibly reminiscent of the Jurassic Park series, Great Ape Games’ The Lost Wild offers a uniquely grounded dinosaur-themed survival-horror experience, which describes its prehistoric threats as acting like wild animals rather than generic monsters from fiction.

Playing as a lone woman named Saskia who is desperately trying to escape the island while learning about the mysteries behind its history and eventual collapse, the gameplay loop of The Lost Wild relies on “cinematic evasion” and stealth as you make your way through dense jungles and ruined facilities rather than facing off against them directly, as described on its official Steam page.

While these mechanics were more than evident in The Lost Wild‘s initial reveal trailer, with the protagonist using the environment to evade, hide from, distract, or even temporarily stun the carnivorous animals roaming around the island in search of prey, the behavior of each dinosaur is also molded after their real-world counterparts.

The Lost Wild Arrives In 2027

Just like the real-life creatures of the past, the dinosaurs in The Lost Wild will either operate as lone scavengers or carnivorous apex predators that will chase down their prey the moment they spot you, or smaller hunters that operate as a pack in order to surround or catch you off guard.

Dinosaur fanatics will also have a significant advantage when playing The Lost Wild, as you’ll need to learn the individual behavior and patterns of each prehistoric creature in order to survive, as they don’t all act like the same mindless monstrosities you’ll find in most survival horror games. Although Capcom is supposedly revisiting their own dinosaur-themed survival-horror through a Dino Crisis remake, the much more grounded stealth-horror experience of The Lost Wild already looks far more promising.
