Daredevil’s (Charlie Cox) initiation into the Avengers may not happen anytime soon.
Eleven years ago, Netflix’s grounded Marvel series stunned viewers, and Cox solidified his mantle as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. After the show’s sudden cancellation, he returned as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home as Peter Parker’s lawyer. Daredevil was finally canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Cox once again played the masked vigilante in the revived series, Born Again. As a result, this raised speculation that the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is just one step closer to joining the Avengers.
Recently, at an MCM Comic Con panel, Cox was asked by an attendee whether Daredevil was joining the Avengers in Secret Wars. He sincerely responded that, “No, I’m not going to be in it, no,” before apologizing. He then humorously backed up his response, saying, “And you should believe me now. I’m not a liar.“
The latter statement refers to Daredevil not appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Before the July release, many viewers suspected that Cox would return, given his No Way Home appearance and the character’s connection to Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, who was confirmed in the new Marvel movie.
Both Daredevil and Punisher faced each other in season 2 of the original Netflix series and reunited in Born Again season 1. Throughout both shows, the Marvel characters maintained reluctant respect with each other, despite clashing over their morals and philosophies as vigilantes.
In October 2025, Cox told Phase Hero that “I’m not, I’m not in Spider-Man” after filming speculation in London. Even then, Marvel audiences didn’t believe him because of the history of stars like Andrew Garfield and Dafne Keen denying return rumors that actually turned out true. However, it can now be confirmed that Daredevil didn’t appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Meanwhile, Cox will reprise the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen in Born Again season 3, which is expected to premiere in early 2027. However, the beloved Marvel vigilante has yet to appear in any movie since No Way Home. Given the threat of Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), there are speculations that Daredevil could be among the heroes to face him. While some stars like Chris Evans and Florence Pugh will appear, Kevin Feige confirmed that the entire roster for Avengers: Doomsday has not been revealed.
While Doomsday is ready for the December 2026 release, Marvel is expected to film Secret Wars in mid-2026. Actors like Evans and Simu Liu seemingly confirmed their return for the follow-up, while Sadie Sink is rumored to make her Avengers debut. Daredevil was also among the rumored superheroes in Secret Wars, but Cox’s recent statement debunks that, and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen may have to wait longer for his initiation.
Meanwhile, Born Again season 3 will showcase the repercussions of Wilson Fisk’s mayoral era. Matt is in prison after he publicly revealed his identity as Daredevil. There is a lot of hype for the show’s return after it was confirmed that Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Elektra (Elodie Yung), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) will officially debut in the MCU.
Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026, and Secret Wars will come a year later on December 17, 2027. Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will premiere sometime in early 2027, but Marvel Studios has yet to announce the date.
