Ink: Danny Boyle’s Rupert Murdoch Film Gets Netflix Theatrical Release

Danny Boyle‘s forthcoming Rupert Murdoch-focused feature Ink is heading to the big screen before its Netflix launch.

The streaming service announced Monday that the film that adapts James Graham’s Tony-winning play is set for theatrical release on Dec. 11 amid the prime awards corridor ahead of the holidays. Ink will begin streaming via Netflix on Jan. 8, 2027, in the U.S. and Latin America.

Ink stars Jack O’Connell as late newspaper editor Larry Lamb, with Guy Pearce as media mogul Murdoch. Claire Foy rounds out the cast for the film that centers on Murdoch envisioning a new brand of news as he hires Lamb to run British tabloid The Sun.

The film will world premiere in competition as the opening film for the 83rd Venice Film Festival on Sept 2. It will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Boyle helmed the movie from the script by Graham that adapts his own play of the same name. Hailing from StudioCanal, Media Res and House Productions, Ink counts Boyle, Tracey Seaward, Tessa Ross and Michael Ellenberg as producers.

“Long before Fox News, click bait and Truth Social; decades before Twitter, Facebook, Google and Only Fans, these two men created a new tabloid which against all the odds became the biggest selling newspaper in the world,” said Boyle in a previous statement about the film. “Cheeky, irreverent, daring: The super soaraway Sun challenged the establishment and remade our world for the modern era.”

The filmmaker added that premiering in Venice would be “a huge honor to be in a city of such extraordinary art and opening this great festival with my new film.”
