The wizarding world of Harry Potter is bustling with activity of late. All eyes are on HBO’s massive series adaptation of the books, which will debut its first season this Christmas with a fresh new cast to boot. Production is also already underway on bringing the second story, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, to life, complete with one dream addition in the form of Superman‘s Nicholas Hoult as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. Amid all the buzz about what this new version of Hogwarts will look like when it hits the screen, Warner Bros. has now confirmed that players will eventually be able to return to the magical school themselves.
In a new letter to shareholders, the company officially confirmed what was widely expected — Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in active development. That’s not a surprise, considering WB has previously affirmed that making a sequel to the Harry Potter open-world RPG was a high priority, and the first title is now among the top-25 bestselling games of all time with over 40 million copies sold. Not only that, but it even became the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar title to be the top-selling title in a single year since 2009, when it released back in 2023. However, what is notable about the mention is that the Hogwarts Legacy follow-up was specifically singled out as one of the video games WB is really banking on.
“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy,” the letter reads.
