Se7en Writer’s New Serial Killer Movie Begins Streaming Redemption After $2.5M Bombing

[

Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker’s new serial killer movie is slashing its way through streaming after bombing at the box office.

The screenwriter’s biggest claim to fame remains Se7en, David Fincher’s 1995 crime thriller following two detectives investigating a serial killer committing a series of murders based on the seven deadly sins – a massive sleeper hit with one of the most shocking and unforgettable twist endings in cinematic history. Since Se7en, Walker has written Joel Schumacher’s crime thriller 8mm, Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (both 1999), The Wolfman (2010), Nerdland (2016), Netflix’s crime thriller Windfall (2022), David Fincher’s The Killer (2023), and another serial killer thriller currently slashing its way through streaming.

After bombing at the box office earlier this year, Psycho Killer is beginning a streaming redemption. Directed by Gavin Polone in his feature debut, with a script written by Andrew Kevin Walker, the 2026 horror-thriller follows a police officer tracking down a sadistic serial killer known as “the Satanic Slasher” who murdered her husband, a state trooper.

Now, Psycho Killer is No. 9 on the Top 10 movies on Disney+ in the world as of yesterday, August 12. It ranks above Iron Man in 10th place and below The Devil Wears Prada 2, Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, Avatar: Fire and Ash, The Avengers, Hoppers, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Psycho Killer stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) in the lead role alongside James Preston Rogers as the Satanic Slasher, Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange), Logan Miller, Grace Dove, Aaron Merke, Nigel Shawn Williams, and David Tomlinson.

Psycho Killer Is Rising The Ranks Of Global Streaming

It Was A Notable Financial Failure

Despite its recent streaming success, the serial killer movie was a notable critical and commercial failure. Psycho Killer reviews were colossally bad, resulting in an abysmal 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, with its Critics Consensus urging everyone to “run, run, run, run, run, run, run away.” It also has a 36% score from audiences, who agree that Psycho Killer ultimately falls flat, despite its intriguing title and impressive creative pedigree.

Released in theaters in February 2026, which is generally a favorable time for horror movies, Psycho Killer also bombed at the box office, grossing only $2.56 million against its $10 million budget.

Psycho Killer Has All The Makings Of A Cult Classic

Se7en Inspirations & A Quiet Release Could Net A Passionate Fanbase

Despite its initial critical and commercial failure, Psycho Killer is showing some early signs of becoming a cult classic. Its rough theatrical run and brutal reviews could fade with time, especially now that it’s finding an audience on streaming. With Se7en writer Andrew Kevin Walker behind it, the movie has the kind of creative pedigree that cult classics thrive on. Psycho Killer may have the last laugh.

Psycho Killer is also streaming on Hulu.
