It’s The End Of An Era For Netflix’s Smash Hit With 9.9 Billion Minutes Viewed

[

Netflix found one of its biggest hits of 2026 with Voicemails for Isabelle as it became a global streaming sensation. The romantic comedy pairs Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson for a story about Deutch’s Jill trying to move forward with her life after her sister’s death by leaving voicemails on her phone. However, her sister’s number now belongs to Robinson’s Wes, who starts to fall for Jill through the messages.

Voicemails for Isabelle is written and directed by Leah McKendrick, who also has a supporting role, and came to Netflix on June 19. The movie arrived with strong critical praise, sitting at 88% on Rotten Tomatoes; Liz Declan’s Voicemails for Isabelle review for ScreenRant gave it an 8 out of 10 score, praising Deutch’s performance and how it deals with grief.

Netflix subscribers have been just as infatuated with the movie. After earning an 86% audience score, Voicemails for Isabelle drew substantial viewership figures. It’s the biggest rom-com for Netflix in 2026 and one of their most popular entries in the genre ever. While Voicemails for Isabelle attracted consistent viewership for weeks, it’s reached the end of an era.

In its eighth week of release, Voicemails for Isabelle fell out of Netflix’s top 10 weekly charts entirely. It had previously spent seven weeks not just in the top 10 but in the top 5, falling no lower than fourth. Now, after earning 9.9 billion minutes viewed across nearly two months, Voicemails for Isabelle is no longer able to be considered one of the most popular movies on streaming.

Voicemails For Isabelle Had An Incredible Run In Netflix’s Top 10

The final numbers for Voicemails for Isabelle’s top 10 run are very impressive. The movie accumulated 84.3 million views during these seven weeks, putting it in sixth place among Netflix’s most-watched 2026 movies. That translated to 165.7 million hours watched, or roughly 9.942 billion minutes.

What makes this so impressive is that Voicemails for Isabelle didn’t have a massive launch like many of Netflix’s biggest original movies. Its 17.5 million-view debut is only the 10th-biggest start this year, 3.4 million behind fellow 2026 rom-com Office Romance. But interest remained high in the weeks ahead, allowing it to rise in popularity with strong word of mouth.

It’s now officially the longest-tenured rom-com in Netflix’s top 10 weekly charts since the streamer started sharing them publicly in 2021. Voicemails for Isabelle‘s 84.3 million views are greater than other major hits like The Life List (82.7 million in six weeks) and A Family Affair (79.1 million in five weeks).

Additionally, Voicemails for Isabelle stayed in the top 5 for more weeks than any 2026 Netflix original movie other than Swapped. Its seven weeks in the top 10 are the third-most on the year, behind Swapped and War Machine. The rom-com might not have as massive viewership figures as those two titles, but it’s been just as relevant, making it a huge win for Netflix.

Netflix Should Double Down On Voicemails For Isabelle’s Success

Voicemails for Isabelle‘s success comes on the heels of years of dominance from Netflix in this genre. They will obviously continue to make more rom-coms after seeing the formula work once again. But it would also be smart of Netflix to keep the two of Voicemails for Isabelle‘s shining stars around and find more opportunities to work with Deutch and McKendrick.

This is already happening to some degree with Deutch, as she’s teaming up with fellow 2026 Netflix rom-com star Emily Bader for Netflix’s soccer movie, The 99’ers, about America’s national team during the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Hopefully, another rom-com is in Deutch’s future, whether it is an original idea, a book adaptation, or Set It Up‘s overdue sequel.

As a semi-rare Netflix rom-com directed by a woman, it would also be nice for McKendrick to get additional opportunities at the streamer. She has been developing Mrs. Claus with Jennifer Garner at Netflix since 2024, but there has been no movement on it so far. In the meantime, McKendrick has also been working on a monster movie with James Wan at Universal and most recently signed on to a Shania Twain biopic at Sony.

Deutch and McKendrick clearly have bright futures individually after Voicemails for Isabelle, but hopefully the future includes the two of them teaming up again after making such a crowd-pleasing sensation.
