Disney’s New Live-Action Power Rangers Series Is Dead

Disney’s live-action Power Rangers series is no more.

From the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series to the 2017 Power Rangers movie, the beloved franchise has gone through many iterations over the years. In March 2025, it was reported that a new live-action series was in the works at Disney+ and 20th Century TV, with Hasbro producing the series and Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz serving as showrunners, writers, and producers.

According to Deadline, the series will not be moving past the development stage, with this decision reportedly being due to business and budgetary reasons rather than creative ones. A live-action superhero show living up to the expectations of the Power Rangers franchise was always going to be a substantial investment and was further complicated by Hasbro owning the rights to the brand as opposed to Disney or 20th Century.
