Star Trek: Strange New Worlds‘ Scotty actor, Martin Quinn, pays a fitting tribute to the O.G from Star Trek: The Original Series, James Doohan.
Martin Quinn made a surprise debut as Scotty in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2’s finale. With the prequel series now in season 4, Lieutenant Montgomery Scott has settled into his role as an engineer aboard the USS Enterprise commanded by Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount). Step-by-step, Scotty is becoming the future Chief Engineer that James Doohan played in the original Star Trek.
On his Instagram Stories, Martin Quinn shared a photo of himself on Hollywood Boulevard with James Doohan’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Quinn included the caption, “Swung by to see this cool guy.” See Martin’s pic below:
James Doohan passed away in March 2005, but he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in August 2004. Not far away, in front of TCL Chinese Theater, Doohan’s signature is also immortalized in cement, along with the rest of his Original Series castmates’, when Star Trek was honored on its 25th anniversary in 1991.
Martin Quinn, who is the first Scotty actor to actually hail from Scotland, lives in the U.K., but he was in Las Vegas last week for Creation Entertainment’s Trek to Vegas. At the biggest con of the year celebrating Star Trek‘s 60th anniversary, Quinn joined many of his Star Trek: Strange New Worlds castmates to meet fans. However, Martin also touched base with Chris Doohan, James’ son.

Martin Quinn has drawn raves from fans for playing Scotty. In ScreenRant‘s exclusive cover story on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4, Quinn’s co-star, Melissa Navia, calls him “just wonderful. He is truly the best Scotty. We could not have landed a better Scotty.” Guest star Dave Foley concurs, telling ScreenRant, “He’s a great Montgomery Scott, if you ask me.“
At a previous STLV, Martin Quinn also met Simon Pegg, who played Scotty in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek movie trilogy. The respect Martin Quinn pays to James Doohan is heartwarming and proves that the legacy of Scotty is in the best hands in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
