‘Deli Boys’ Canceled at Hulu After 2 Seasons

Hulu has canceled its crime dramedy Deli Boys after two seasons.

The cancellation comes more than two months after the six-episode second season premiered as a binge release on Hulu. Deli Boys earned positive reviews for both of its seasons, but the audience for season two fell short of what it needed to continue. Hulu doesn’t regularly release data for its shows; Deli Boys has never appeared in Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings.

Produced by Disney’s Onyx Collective and 20th Television, Deli Boys centers on Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj Dar (Saagar Shaikh), Pakistani-American brothers whose father, to the best of their knowledge, owned a string of convenience stores. After his death, they discover their dad also ran a criminal enterprise and are thrust into running both that and the legitimate business.

The series also stars Poorna Jagannathan, Brian George and Alfie Fuller. Fred Armisen joined the cast for season two as a “uniquely brilliant and deeply unhinged” casino magnate. 

Abduallah Saeed (Vice’s Bong Appetit) created Deli Boys, which was developed by Jenni Konner and Nora Silver under Jenni Konner Productions. Saeed, Konner and Silver executive produced with Michelle Nader.

With the cancellation of Deli Boys, the comedy roster for Hulu Originals (i.e., not shows produced by FX) includes Only Murders in the Building, Chad Powers and first-year shows Not Suitable for Work and Alice and Steve. On the horizon is Mosquito, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Nicholas Hoult.
