Ocarina Of Time Remake Will Officially Be Unplayable For Millions At Launch

[

After months of rumors and insider leakers, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake was finally announced back in June during the latest Nintendo Direct presentation. Marking the first modern-day remake of the Zelda classic, it is set to launch later this year, but with just a brief teaser trailer under its belt, details still remain scarce on the highly anticipated release.

Featuring a cinematic trailer complete with a woven tapestry and a look at a much younger Link, the trailer did reveal that Nintendo has decided to go with a semi-realistic visual style for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, making it stand out against previous ports in the Zelda franchise.

However, with no official release date and no gameplay trailer, the hype surrounding the highly anticipated remake has hit a lull. Not only that, but with the news that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will be unplayable for millions, it seems as though Nintendo will have to pull it out of the bag if they want a successful launch.

That is because The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, meaning that it will be unplayable for Nintendo Switch users who are yet to upgrade to the newest model. Of course, as a Nintendo release, it will only be available on Nintendo handhelds, so PC and console users are also being left in the dark (at least until emulators start creeping up), so only a small majority of gamers will be able to get their hands on the upcoming release.

First released back in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is now widely regarded as the most popular Zelda entry of all time. Following the story of Link as he travels the kingdom of Hyrule in an attempt to put a stop to the tyrannical reign of king Ganondorf, gameplay consisted of traversing and clearing dungeons, solving puzzles, and of course, iconic boss battles.

Met with critical acclaim, Ocarina of Time was praised for its visuals, sound, gameplay, soundtrack, and writing, and now, almost three decades later, it is still remembered fondly and remains one of the highest rated games on both Metacritic and GameRankings.

With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake shaping up to be one of 2026’s most beloved releases, it is a shame that millions of fans will be unable to play it upon launch. However, if any game is going to convince players to finally upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2, it is probably this one.
