The Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally getting to tell its story for the iconic mutants.
The MCU timeline is more than a year out from officially finishing the Multiverse Saga, which includes two new Avengers movies in 2026 and 2027, respectively. However, Phase 7 will start a highly anticipated era for the beloved franchise, as a big reboot film is on its way.
The X-Men movie from Jake Schreier recently tapped several new cast members, including Inde Navarrette and Maya Boyd as the MCU’s Rogue and Storm, respectively. Following the casting announcements, stars who play the famous heroines in Marvel Studios’ other ongoing version of the famous group have reacted to the live-action news. Lenore Zann, who voiced Rogue in X-Men ’97, the sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series, where she portrayed her in five seasons, shared a special video for Navarrette on Instagram.
The Marvel star stated: “Well, hey there, y’all. This here is Lenore Zann a.k.a. Rogue of the X-Men, coming to you today from beautiful Dublin, Ireland. I just want to give a shoutout to Inde Navarrette, the actress who was just named to play Rogue in the upcoming Marvel movie of the X-Men. I can’t wait to meetcha, sugar! I will be coming back to North America in the next month, so I look forward to that day.”
Alison Sealy-Smith, who has played Storm since X-Men: The Animated Series, and also voices her in X-Men ’97, shared her congratulations to Boyd, with the following message: “Theatre teaches you how to fly without a safety net—and knowing how to truly soar on stage comes in very handy when you’re stepping into the shoes of the Mistress of the Elements! So excited to watch you electrify us, Maya!”
The X-Men cast has tapped Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mister Sinister in the comics. At D23 2026, it was formally revealed that the ensemble will head to theaters on May 5, 2028.
However, while they announced multiple characters at the event, Kevin Feige promised that they are far from done with casting. The Marvel Studios president shared with the audience, “We will have more to announce soon, but we wanted to bring everybody out and say hello.”
Feige said at D23 that he is thrilled to feature a fresh new take on these famous characters, stressing how “there’s been 10 great X-Men movies and there could be 100 more. There’s saga upon saga within those comics that haven’t been told yet.” The 2028 entry is being written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Phase 6 is also properly bidding farewell to Fox’s version of the X-Men as multiple actors from the original films are reprising their roles in Avengers: Doomsday this fall. While it’s unknown if they are in 2027’s Secret Wars, the Multiverse Saga will be the last time those stars play their characters that they got cast as all the way back in the early 2000s.
In terms of what other mutants will show up in the X-Men movie, there are a lot of characters that the Fox films never used who could potentially get their time to shine in the reboot. Hopefully, it won’t be long until the world learns who else will be showing up in Schreier’s MCU feature.
The untitled X-Men film is opening on May 5, 2028.
