HBO’s Game of Thrones may have ended over seven years ago now with the epic Long Night battle and the fiery destruction of King’s Landing, but the franchise is arguably as alive as it’s ever been thanks to spin-offs such as House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
With adaptations such as The Mad King stageplay and the upcoming Aegon’s Conquest film, as well as the new Game of Thrones: Dragonfire 4X mobile strategy game and the upcoming RTS War for Westeros, George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire universe is reaching new audiences across every medium.
In addition to future projects, there are countless ongoing adaptations out there that continue to keep Game of Thrones alive and well, and one of the franchise’s longest running projects has an action-packed weekend planned for fans, starting with the release of War for the Throne’s Invasion and Open War events on August 22 (via GoTC).
War for the Throne is a recurring Game of Thrones: Conquest PvP event built around what’s referred to as “Kingdom-vs-Kingdom” warfare, allowing eligible players to teleport into another kingdom and fight for control of its Seats of Power for a limited time. The August edition follows the same multi-stage format seen in previous War for the Throne weekends, kicking off at 2:00PM on Saturday.
The action begins with Invasion, which runs until 10AM Sunday, and during this phase, KvK event teleports are active, letting players cross into their matched rival kingdom, while players occupying Seats of Power when Invasion ends receive KvK Pawn Shards (you can find your kingdom match here).
At the same time, Open War begins and continues across virtually the entire weekend, running until approximately 6PM Sunday and introducing Strategic Terrain Nodes as another focus for PvP competition.
Sunday then divides the Seat of Power battle into two more phases: Respite and Retribution. Respite runs from roughly 10AM to 2PM, and as the name suggests, locks every Seat of Power and gives kingdoms a four-hour recovery window. Retribution follows from approximately 2PM to 6PM, unlocking all Seats of Power again for one final push before they return to their normal unlock schedules. Here’s a full breakdown of the schedule for this week’s War for the Throne weekend:
