For the last little while, Marvel has indulged in a handful of Spider-Man comic book miniseries, beyond the ongoing Amazing Spider-Man run, that have all leaned into their synergy with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day to varying degrees. Dan Slott and Marcus To’s Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day miniseries, for instance, was exciting as it promised to explore the clean slate of its eponymous storyline’s era further.
The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day was advertised as a five-issue miniseries, and its fifth issue is scheduled to be released on September 23. However, Slott had been vocal about how The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day had the potential to graduate from a five-issue miniseries to an ongoing series if readers embraced it warmly and if it was successful. Now, fans of Slott’s storied Spider-Man history who have craved a new ongoing Spectacular Spider-Man series eventually running parallel to The Amazing Spider-Man have a lot to look forward to before the end of 2026.
As per CBR, The Spectacular Spider-Man: Brand New Day is making that leap to become an ongoing series, and an interview with Slott has cleared the air about how the future of this book may take shape. It seems apparent that Slott is most excited to revisit Spider-Man’s colorful cast of supporting characters and supervillains, particularly those who maybe didn’t have a lot of time in the oven.
Indeed, the most significant revelation from this interview is that The Spectacular Spider-Man will not only be jumping ahead from the “Brand New Day” era to the “Big Time” era, but it’ll also soon advance to the present day of modern Spider-Man storytelling. As Slott says:
“We’re moving to the next part, Big Time, and we will continue to kind of, like, move our way up and gain, as we go along, more unique places, people, things to fill up the world of Spec. And hopefully, by the time we do present day, which should be pretty soon, you’ll have this whole counterculture world of Spec that won’t step on Joe Kelly’s toes.”
The Spectacular Spider-Man #6’s cover is the spitting image of the “Big Time” era it’s inhabiting, complete with the New York Police Department’s Yuri Watanabe, Horizon Labs, and Humberto Ramos’ superb Spider-Man cover artwork. The solicitation for Spectacular Spider-Man #6 reads as follows:
SPIDEY GOES BIG TIME!
SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN is moving past his BRAND NEW DAY and into the BIG TIME! The full scope of this series is revealed as the seeds Dan and Marcus planted in issues #1–5 move with them through time where they will bloom into trees that could DESTROY PETER PARKER! Not only will you get more of TURNCOAT whose full debut happened in #5, but this issue introduces a big-time new villain THE SCAVENGER! And we’re only one month away from the 50th ANNIVERSARY of the SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN so you better believe we’ve got BIG-TIME PLANS!
Spectacular Spider-Man #6 is scheduled to be released on November 25, 2026.
