Academy Museum Fall Films Include ‘Marie Antoinette,’ ‘The Craft’

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures fall programming celebrates several anniversary milestones along with a focus on horror. There will be a 50th anniversary screening of “Carrie” (1976) with Sissy Spacek, a 30th anniversary screening of “The Craft” (1996) with Rachel True and Robin Tunney and a 30th anniversary screening of “Get on the Bus” (1996). 

There will also be a 20th anniversary screening of “Marie Antoinette” (2006) with Sofia Coppola. 

“It’s hard to believe that Marie Antoinette was made 20 years ago,” Coppola said. “I am grateful that the film continues to have a life of its own and that new audiences are discovering their own ways into it through screenings like this one.” 

John Carpenter will present the retrospective film series “John Carpenter: Prince of Darkness with John Carpenter.”

“I’m proud of these films and the worlds we created, and it’s gratifying to see they’ve found audiences and have taken on lives of their own,” Carpenter said. “It will be great to spend time together to look back at the work that has been such an important part of my life.”

Other films programmed in conjunction with The Horror Show exhibit include a Monster Mash day with “Hotel Transylvania,” “Blade” and “Horror of Dracula.”

There will also be a “Roberto Rossellini Prefers Real Life” screening series with Isabella Rossellini.

“My father, Roberto Rossellini, had a deep curiosity about cinema, about people, and about the world that shaped my own curiosity and understanding of storytelling,” Isabella Rossellini said. “I’m delighted to share his films and to celebrate the legacy he left behind.”

Museum members receive complimentary general admission for unlimited visits and priority admission.

Focus Features to Host Free Screening of ‘Finding Emily’ for People Named Emily

If your name is Emily, you’re in luck. 

Focus Features is hosting free previews of the romantic comedy “Finding Emily” for anybody named Emily and their friends this Sunday. The screening is only available in Los Angeles at AMC Century City and New York at AMC Empire 25 at 7 p.m..

“Finding Emily” stars Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn as a musician who, after he dials a wrong number, embarks on a search for his dream girl with the help of a psychology student. 

The film will release in theaters everywhere Aug. 28 and is from the team behind “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and “Love Actually.”

Juan Gabriel’s “Bellas Artes” Concert Film Releasing Sept. 15 in U.S. Theaters

Juan Gabriel’s “Bellas Artes” concert film will release in U.S. theaters Sept. 15.

“Juan Gabriel: Mi Primer Bellas Artes” is a newly re-edited and restored theatrical presentation of the singer-songwriter’s 1990 performance at Mexico City’s Palacio de Bellas Artes. It features a previously unseen introduction with rehearsal footage and personal archive materials.

The six-time Grammy nominee is one of the all-time best-selling Latin music artists, with more than 100 million records sold over his four-decade career. A November 2025 screening of the concert at Mexico City’s Zócalo drew 170,000 attendees. The new theatrical edition will be released in Mexico, Spain and Latin America on Aug. 28, commemorating the 10th anniversary of Gabriel’s passing.

The re-edit and restoration was led by María José Cuevas, the director and visual artist behind Netflix docuseries “Juan Gabriel: I Must, I Can, I Will,” in collaboration with production company MEZCLA. The film is produced by Sony Music Vision and distributed internationally by Cinemax Alternativo.
