Disney’s Tangled Live-Action Remake Completes Major Milestone

[

Disney’s return to Tangled gets more magical.

The story of Rapunzel can be traced back to 1634 and earlier, with many iterations told over the years and centuries. The Brothers Grimm’s tale of Rapunzel, released in 1812, popularized the tale, leading to Disney and many other studios taking the story and retelling it in numerous ways. Disney’s Tangled, released in 2010, brought a 3D-animated musical film into the many adaptations of Rapunzel and became a worldwide success. Now, Disney is returning to their roots with a remake.

After months of filming, two pivotal characters have said farewell as they officially wrap up the production of Disney’s live-action Tangled remake. Twin brothers Hugo and Patrick McPherson shared a series of images on Instagram alongside the caption, “Wrap post! It was the best six months of our lives. Stabbingtons Out. Hasta luego xx.” The images also featured fellow co-stars Milo Manheim, Teagan Croft, and more. It’s unclear if the rest of the cast will be concluding soon, but the Stabbington brothers have concluded their scenes.

Rapunzel, an innocent, young girl, is locked up by her overly protective mother. Her wish to escape into the world outside finally comes true when she meets the good-hearted thief, Flynn.

The Stabbington brothers, nicknamed Sideburns and Patchy, are the secondary antagonists in Disney’s retelling of Rapunzel. The two thieves are betrayed by Flynn Rider when he takes the lost Princess’s crown for himself. However, the two characters concoct a plan with Mother Gothel to put a stop to Flynn and Rapunzel. The cast includes Manheim as Flynn, Croft as Rapunzel, Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, and The Last of Us‘ star Diego Luna in an original and mysterious role created for the remake.

Michael Gracey, known for Better Man and The Greatest Showman, is directing Tangled, with Michael Montemayor and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson adapting the screenplay. It was recently announced that Elliott Cowan, known for The Crown, has joined the remake as Rapunzel’s father, King Frederic, alongside Outlander‘s Caitríona Balfe as Queen Arianna, Rapunzel’s mother.

The iconic tower that was Rapunzel’s home was being completely built in the area, and the Kingdom of Corona has transformed the streets in Spain into its own magical land. Production was taking place in Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, but it is expected to be wrapping up as more cast members will be sharing their updates on social media following the McPhersons.

Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled will be released in theaters on March 31, 2028. The original Tangled movie is available to watch on Disney+ now.
