It has officially been a year since the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but thanks to the regular updates courtesy of Game Freak, there is always brand-new content to get stuck into even to this day.
Released back in October 2025, Pokémon Legends: Z-A marked the second entry in the Pokémon Legends subseries, and despite taking players to the brand-new Parisian-inspired region of Lumiose City in Kalos, this new setting fell flat when it came to audience’s expectations. Nevertheless, the ninth-generation Pokémon game is back once more with an exciting update which could see players walk away with a must-have mystery gift.
Here at Screen Rant, our very own Austin King awarded the Nintendo Switch title an almost-perfect 9/10, calling it “a fresh take on battles and mega evolution.”
How much someone loves Pokémon Legends: Z-A will really come down to how much they love Pokémon battles, versus getting to explore and catch new Pokémon. It’s not that one gameplay element is better than the other — both have always existed within Pokémon — but it does make Legends: Z-A feel pretty refreshing now that catching Pokémon feels more ancillary, rather than being the game’s primary objective. It’s a fun, fresh take on the series’ formula that really helps Pokémon Legends: Z-A set itself apart as one of the best entries yet.
However, it is definitely Pokémon Legends: Z-A’s post-game content that has kept players interested over the past year, and this latest offering is no exception.
Beginning today, 29 October, players will be able to grab Spewpa as a Mystery Gift to help celebrate the launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension.
Best known for evolving into Vivillon and boasting different variations based on the climate and topography of its environment, Spewpa will make an excellent addition to your team, especially as this one in particular will be able to evolve into any one of sixteen patterns at random.
If you wish to see which pattern your Spewpa will inherit after evolving, you will be able to grab them via Mystery Gift from now until 18 November at 5:59 p.m. PST. Luckily, adding them to your team is very simple. All you will need to do is open the main menu of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and select ‘Link Play’. Once done, select Mystery Gift and then ‘Get via Internet’. As you can imagine, this will need an internet connection to work, but if available, you will then be able to save your game and grab the adorable ‘mon.
That being said, it is worth noting that you will only be able to receive one Spewpa per save file, and the profile you use will need to be linked to a Nintendo Account, but luckily, this does not mean you need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Furthermore, if you are new to Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you will need to have accumulated at least an hour of gameplay in order to unlock the Mystery Gift feature, but luckily, this is available on both digital and physical copies of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
