Star Trek: Voyager Officially Replaces Captain Janeway In New Outing

[

Airing from 1995 to 2001 and marking the fifth Star Trek television series, Star Trek: Voyager is considered one of the best, despite being well over two decades since fans got to experience the adventures of the Starfleet vessel, USS Voyager.

Created by Rick Berman, Michael Piller and Jeri Taylor, Star Trek: Voyager is remembered fondly for some of its creative decisions, such as being the first Star Trek television show to feature a female commanding officer with Captain Kathryn Janeway, and offering fans a brand-new era to immerse themselves in. As such, despite ending in 2001, the Voyager universe has continued to expand courtesy of video games and novels inspired by its events.

Now, it is the first female commander who is set to receive a replacement, as Captain Kathryn Janeway steps aside for another character who will take the helm on the USS Voyager.

First released back in February, Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown is a rogue-lite survival strategy video game based on the events of the beloved television series of the same name. However, as of 1 October, players were treated to the Equinox DLC, which introduced another playable Starfleet ship and commander.

Instead of Captain Janeway being at the helm, players will take control of the USS Equinox alongside the likes of First Officer Maxwell Burke and Crewman Noah Lessing, but it will be Captain Rudolph Ransom who is set to join the roster in the brand-new DLC. For those familiar with the name, Ransom appeared in Star Trek: Voyager‘s Equinox two-parter where he, and his crew, had to make difficult decisions in order to survive a terrifying journey through the Delta Quadrant.

This perilious journey has now been recreated in Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown as, thanks to being a much smaller ship than the Voyager, the Equinox is a lot harder to maintain, and most importantly, bring home. Therefore, players will have to bring their A game in order to complete the brand-new missions.

The arrival of a brand-new commander coincides with the launch of The Q-Trials, a free roguelite mode which arrived alongside the Equinox DLC. In this mode, players will have to face random events, challenging routes and challenges, and the chance to mix-and-match their crew as they fly across the Delta Quadrant. As well as offering more replayability options thanks to the crew editor, The Q-Trials also welcomes the return of John de Lancie as Q to help explain the new mode to players.

As a brand-new, free expansion to Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, The Q-Trials can be accessed as long as you own the base game. However, if you wish to dive into the Equinox DLC, you will have to splash a little cash. If you already own the Expansion Pass, the DLC will also be automatically added to your game across PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Whilst the iconic Captain Kathryn Janeway may still reside in the universe of Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, the new DLC sees her step aside and make room for Captain Rudolph Ransom and his perilous journey across the stars.
